Default Problem - trouble starting car

Ok.. so before I take the teg in to the shop tomorrow to get gipped six ways from sunday, I figured I'd ask here first.

I got out to my car after getting some food after work, tried turning the car over and it just made a struggling-turning-over noise. So first thing I did was check my lights.. everything electrical worked.. so I made the assumption that it was my starter..

All the while, I was waiting for my friend to show up to take a look. After lifting the hood, we tried jumping it. Car started right up. Then we figured it was the corrosion around the negative battery terminal.. as I hadn't cleaned it for a year and the corrosion had gotten pretty bad. Got some warm water and baking soda and cleaned the crap out of it after I got home.

Now instead of struggling to start and not starting at all, it struggles for a bit and then turns over. This is all while the engine's still warm. I'm pretty sure tomorrow morning it'll just not start and I'll have to jump it again. Any ideas?

Check main relay, since it was warm, solder joints, get dry and break. Do you hear clicks when turning the key?

Turns out it was a dead battery (but my lights were working before?) and a bad ground cable to the battery. Car starts up like a charm now. BUT they also told me that my water pump as well as my master cylinder are going out.

How expensive would it be to get the parts.. easy to install myself?

They quoted me 390 for the master cylinder and 670 for the water pump. Ouch.. may be time to sell her off.

dont sell it just look around some junk yards or the internet for the parts. the master cylinder wont be to hard to change. the water pump is more difficult and you might as well change the timing belt when you do it. but dont sell the car you will regret it

Yeah dont sell it. how do they know the water pump or MC is going out? he could just be trying to get money. Maybe this a sign that you should start working on your own car, and save some money.

Well, the car was put on a lift and i saw the leak of green crap coming out of the master cylinder. The water pump I always knew needed to be replaced as my friend told me about it 6 months ago when he sold it to me.

The reason why I had the idea of selling it was because the car also has cracked trailing arm bushings as well as a couple other minor things that bug the hell outta me. The way I see it, it'll cost me about 2 grand to get it to where I want it for a daily driver or use that 2 grand to get myself back into the rwd subcompact scene.
