Default Idling at 2000 rpm, hard to cold start and no vtec

b18c5 bottom and b16 head with itr valvetrain/b16 cams.

Any ideas? I just completed a bunch of maintenance (which included pulling the head).I also put on a skunk 2 manifold. (stock 00 Si throttle body)
Car takes a few times of trying to start when cold..and sometimes(when cold) itll catch but it will idle really low. (sometimes die out) then magically itll catch and idle high. It was loping for a few days..(1500 to 2000) then i adjusted the idle screw and its not loping, but holding at 2000 rpm. at least i dont sound liek a complete tool at a light lol. vroOOOM...vroOOOMM.

Any thoughts? i cleaned my iacv(along with everything else) when i swapped my stuff over to the skunk 2 mani. Is it possible its actually to clean/sticking/stuck?

I also dont have vtec. lol
car pulls well/normally. Revs fine, no vac leaks as far as I could tell/find. just got 31 mpg on a roadtrip so its not the o2 sensors(mileage is normal). speed sensor works. oil pressure in the motor is fine.

the only thing i can think of is i mixed up the two connectors that are the same(vtec oil pressure and whatever else is just below it) though when i swapped them(and reset the ecu) i still had no vtec.
and possibly one the holes in the right cap that holds the cams on(for oil pressure) is a tiny bit enlarged(a sliver piece of metal came out) but i dont think that would cause it.

so I really have no clue at this point.

its tough to diagnose to since i had the whole thing almost completely apart and put a bunch of new stuff on at once . :/

thanks for the help.
this is the worst its been for me after pulling it apart/putting it back together. its always gone smoothly. guess it was my turn lol.

oh ya, not sure on codes since my cel is on all the time....running an itr ecu with the immobilizer removed (that causes a constant cel)...havent tried to see if it will actually give me any codes or not.fyi been running this ecu for yrs with no problems at all..so its not that.

also car does not have a fast idle control valve.

Check your oil pressure if you can. Low oil pressure could prevent vtec engagement and could make it hard to start- especially when cold. Do not drive it while there is a possible oiling problem.

I dont see how there could be an oil pressure problem.... itll try to have a look...but i have to drive it. its my daily. gotta get to work.

infact its seen 750 miles already.

I never touched the oil pump or the bottom end.

ill have to plug in my oil pressure gauge.

ok, so I figured a few things out.

I had adjusted my idle screw and got the idle to hold. but at 2000 rpm... so I was thinking how was it screwy/hard to start...

so I checked my vtec plug and coolant temp plug...durrr i had them reversed. they are obviously the same connector but on my car they are ALSO the same colour so you have to look at the wire colours. the coolant one with the coloured wires...had some oil/gunk on it from my leak before so it wasnt until i wiped it clean that I could see I had it wrong.

whoops. reset the ecu...starts normal and idles perfectly fine/normal.

w00t.

Still no damn vtec though ...?

gotta retorque my arps later today, so Ill try to have a good look at things to make sure I didnt mix anything else up.
