Default Does anyone know the difference on these waterpumps?

Ok, so I have to get a new waterpump. I went to the autoparts store and asked for a 99 Si on the waterpump, the price was $81.99 so I got to thinking about hmm, well we'll see how much a Del Sol VTEC one will be, so they typed it in and that waterpump is $42.99 the only difference that I could see in the pictures was that they had spun the waterpump around and had it in different positions. Are there any difference in these two waterpumps? I've been working on hondas for a few years now and haven't ever really though about it and always thought that the b16a3 and b16a2 were the same except for the difference on the intake manifolds. Please if someone knows help me because I like to learn new things and everything. Thanks

Hello to a fellow del sol owner it looks like...as for your water pumps, I encountered the same issue when I decided to do my del sol timing belt and water pump. A guy I knew had an OEM Si pump he would sell me cheap so I looked into it. From what I found the only difference is the number of fins on the back side that spin. I think that is slightly different, but either one works with either engine. I have the Si one on my del sol and I have had no issues at all, bolts up just the same too and gasket the same.

Are you certain the prices he gave you were for different? What im trying to ask is, did he say the $40 pump was new? All I can say, having worked in the parts business for a while, just because it looks like it would work, does not necessarily mean it will work. Hell, buy the cheap one, if it doesnt work, take it back and exchange it.

You must not have read the other posts where I said I confirmed they do indeed not only look alike, but do work in both applications.

lol, yeah the parts numbers are different, but they should work.. I always thought they would but the guy at the parts store was trying to tell me different and was completely confusing me, then I went to another parts store and the guy there tried to tell me that they didn't make a 1.6 SOHC they only made 1.6 DOHC motors.... so I was arguing with him about that. On his computer it didn't give the choice for a SOHC or DOHC so he just assumed that what he looked up was for my motor. So I went back to Autozone and bought the cheaper one.

Funny how parts guys always push the more expensive part on you, they must get paid on commission at a lot of these places if not all of them.

Yeah, I love the Del Sols and everything I just had gotten to get another one after 3yrs and i'm glad I did, I just started having troubles out of my old motor that I put in it. So ?, do you know if Del Sol S knuckles have the same rotors and brake calipers as the Civic Hatch CX knuckles??

I would imagine those knuckles are the same, but not positive. I would just verify the part numbers on a honda parts website like myhondapartsstore.com. They have honda parts catalogs on there.
