s80 w/ lsd aluminum chunks inside
s80 with lsd and 4.7 final drive.
the problem I always had with the tranny was it would have a slight frind going into 1st, 3rd, and 5th if I shifted at like under 3k
then I always had an disengagement problem as if it would only grab about halfway until i let the clutch out fully then it would dis engage right.
i was showing someone my trans yesterday and noticed a small pile of aluminum chunks sitting just inside the cv axle seal. I grabbed the input shaft and its solid and spins freely and the same when I run it through the gears. but when you spin the shaft back and fowarth you can hear chunks of something falling around inside. what internally is aluminum? I thought all internals were hardened steel or something and the casing was the only aluminum thing there was. anyone have any ideas what I messed up?

Older D-series transmissions (up to '95) used aluminum shift forks ('96+ are steel). I'm just not sure if B-series are the same or not, never had one apart yet.
my s80 has steel forks....either way your gonna have to crack that puppy open and see whats rattling around....did your speedometer work? I think some of them had aluminum shaft (not actually the shaft, just the part that supports the shaft)
speedo worked, i never had a problem with the tranny before other than a really worn out clutch (act 6 puck sprung extreme) and it would have a slight grind everyonce in a while going into 1st, 3rd, and 5th if I shifted under 3k rpm's. im gonna crack it opwn tonight. ill take pix but all i have is my iphone to do t with
got drunk decided lets learn to take apart my tranny lol.
so the problem was I had aluminum chunks in the trans floating but had no problems with it other than hard to get into each gear.
once apart. I found this notice the missing piece of case. thats where all my chavings came from. all bearings were good, gears had no subnormal wear or markings they looked brand new. syncros looked good as well.

as for the hard shifting. something in my gear selector seems to either be bent or off as thats where the resistance is coming from when I shift gears. other than that everything went together fine with the help of a rubber mallet lol
anyone know what kinda LSD this is?

guy I bought the trans from lied as its not a 4.7 its a 4.4 the rat bastard.
but one of my buddys who works on trannys a lot says that b16 and ls diffs have a smaller diff than a gsr, is that true?
ring gear came out to 66 and FD is 13 so i gots a 4.4 :-(

Thats an OEM LSD from the factory and is a 4.4
If you have a lot of shavings..I would suggest replacing your bearings to be cautious....if it is not in your budget..CLEAN THEM VERY WELL!! Same goes for the rest of the trans as far as cleaning. Check your forks carefully..it would take a superman arm to bend a shift fork in a car. Or it can be a forceful hand of a crappy trans installer using a mallet to force a misaligned trans to close. Check everything closely!
