I want to paint it red, something similar to the type r cover. Does anyone know if there is some specific name of a color I am supposed to get? Any help on this one would be appreciated.... - Matt

VHT makes a wrinkle finish red. SP-204 red to be exact. Its as close as you can get to the actual R valve cover color without spending $140 on the valve cover itself.

all those paints come out a shiney/gloss finish, u want some thing matte/flat, i have yet to find anything close, other than powder coating

 

Hum whats worse. A b16a with a CTR/ITR valve cover or a B16a with a fake painted red valve cover? I say keep the red covers for the b16b's and b18c's

But I wish you luck if you choose to do it on your own. I've seen many people try and mess up pretty bad.

 

dont get the ford red paint at autozone..its comes out orange! i know from experience..get it powder coated whatever color you want..

 

just strip the paint off. i did that on my ls and i think it looks nice.

 

yeah TAKE THE TIME AND STRIP IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!! i learned that the hard way. btw i used Ford Red... Came out perfect!

I love this color for a valve cover.

 

gunmetal, its at auto zone, like iron metal coat or somthing like that is the name.

heres mine.

 

I used the VHT wrinkle paint, and it looks realy good. Just make sure you dont spray it too heavy. You can order it from SUmmit racing for 5.95$. its a good deal and it looks real good, and yes its matte and not shiny, and will not chip.

I got some vht wrinkle coating and some duplicolor ceramic flat red paint. Looks pretty damn good, when you paint the red you have to use a million really thin coats or it will come out somewhat smooth looking. To get the textured look you have to spray it on thin,

 

how about you keep it black...what the hell is painting it gonna do? 20hp to the wheels huh? i heard about that....why dont you go spend 900 dollars on a spoon cluster too....

 

well, at least he's making it a DIY project, and not spending $100+ on a already-painted cover.
