Default tach gone crazy

hay whats up..just bought another civic, a bone stock 93 4dr. the idles fine but the tach just is all over the place. it jumps up and down at idle and while driving. could it be the cluster just shitting the bed. any ideas? i would like to know what my rpm's are at. help me out

check fuse .
vss fuse . had that problem.

The VSS sends the speed signal to the speedo not the rpm signal to the tach. You might have a failing igniter unit in the distributor. Also check whether the blue (tach) wire on the igniter unit is loose or corroded.

thats what i heard, it could be the igniter. i have another dizzy. im gona swap it out and c what happens

There should be a plastic thing that covers the magnetos in the dizzy under the rotor.
If the that plastic cover is off, it will make ur tach go all over the place. The people that sold it to you probably broke or took it off while doing a tune up on it.
