Hondata Intake Mani gasket!?!
I just installed a Hondata intake manifold gasket on my Y8 and was wondering if there was any kind of liquid gasket I was supposed to use b/c it's leaking. I'm thinking that it's possible that the underneath bolt isn't as tight as it needs to be but I'm still wondering if I was supposed to put some kind of liquid gasket on it as well...
Yep. The underneath bolt is really hard to get too, especially laying down. I have all the other bolts really tight, it's just that one I can't get to.
This weekend I'm going to put it on a lift and buy a stubby ratchet and several 1/4" drive extensions of different lenghts and I already have the U joint attachment for the sockets...

You don't need to use anything on it. Was it brand new? It might have been a little warped if not. Also are you sure it's a real one? People sell knockoffs believe it or not that will melt slightly.
What makes you think it's leaking?
What makes you think it's leaking?
yes, brand new - hondata, not a knockoff. It's leaking b/c it idles at 2k and when i spray brake cleaner between the IM and head, it bogs the engine...

those gaskets are useless imho, just use OEM...hell, when I swapped my IM for a skunk2 piece I used the old gasket, no probs
What do those gaskets claim? more horsepower im sure...

i used mine with a turbo set up and a skunk2 intake mani. and i did retighten it. the stud barely made it all the way through. they are supposed to be reusable and lower intake temp by 4 degrees wich was like 1hp to the crank on the dyno that hondata did it made me want to get one...now its crispy
I'm going by autozone tonight and buying 2 stock intake manifold gaskets to put on either side of it! Guarantee it solves the problem and I'll be drivin' my car tomorrow!!!

hey kids why dont you read hondatas website.... they CLEARLY STATE the hondata heat shield intake manifold gasket requires extended studs for proper operation!
kthxbye

we have never had a single problem with any of our hondata gaskets. and yes we recommend our longer stud kit on the intake side to get full amount of tention on the manifold to seal everything up nice and tight
what a waste, 1crank hp?! You could gain that by letting out a fart, or taking the caps off your valve stems, Le$$ roTaTing MA$$ y0! gimme a break
You don't need the extended studs. The nuts thread on just fine without them. Just torque it down to spec and retighten it after you drive it. The heat probably allows it to seal a little better since it will soften the plastic.
may be a dumb question but did you use the proper tightening sequence? i have put a few of these on and never had a problem. also a retorque is a must since it is plastic sandwiched in between two hunks of hot metal.
good luck
