How Does Your ITR Idle ??? Need Feedback !!!
i need to know how the majority of ITR's out there Idle, my idle doest exactly feel smooth, other than the normal fluctuations, when it is at a steady idle of 800 or so rpm...it has a bit of vibration...i hear a bit of valve clatter...my valve lash may need adjusting....but the engine doesnt feel smooth, does anyone esle expierience this....i am the third owner of this ITR....the previous owner who is also a H-T member seemed to take great care of the car....but the person he bought it from seemed to put the most miles on it, and i really dont know how he drove it....
could the choppyness be due to bent valves...maybe very slighty bent valves...the car did pass inspection with flying colors ....gets about 250 miles to a tank of gas...25.00 average.....
the car did go into servicing at acura , for a faulty starter , then caused for them to install a new flywheel, and a new clutch, but after that the car has not felt the same, it feels a bit weak , at low RPM...it only seems to pull hard at Vtec ....
i dont beat on it very hard...i only take the occasional spirited run about once or twice a month...which is usually 3 am sunday nights on a nice little empty stretch of freeway i like .....i'll make about a 135 mph run, with out hitting 8k....i'll only hit 8k in fourth gear....then shut her down.....
other than that....daily driving is 3k shift every time...rarely ever have the a/c on...
i want to inspect the current health of the engine....i would like to take it to acura, maybe have a compresion test...the car only has 28k miles, still under warranty, will acura give me a comp test free of charge...
as a side note... after i push her hard every once in a while, i smell this kind of strong odor, it doesnt smell like gas, or burn oil....maybe a skunky type of smell, could it be the Cat is clogged, for all i know the cat is stock...but when i bought the car , it already had installed a JDM DC 4-1 header, Apexi N1 cat back ...and AEM CAI.....
thanx ....and help or tips will be greatly appreciated
but sorry from straying from my TOPIC....

Mine idled like **** with Hondata and now doesn't idle at all with bent exhaust valves. With Kenji's ecu and with the stock ecu the car idled perfectly.
When was your last valve adjustment? It sound like you may have a couple tight valves. Also, here's something else to check. Take some carb cleaner on a rag and clean inside your throttle body where the butterfly closes. Carbon build up there will cause a slight, erratic idle. Most car manufacturers require service dealers to do this at service intervals.
i have no idea when they have been adjusted...i'm gonna do then very soon...maybe tommorow 00.7 intake , and 00.8 exhaust are the specs they are suppose to be right.....after they are adjusted, that will help MPG right ? ...
how about the skunky smell, could it be the catalytic converter

My idle was pretty jacked up, ~21000 miles with just oil changes. I've ragged on my car, track events, auto-x events, and some early draggin in my rice days
Couple weeks ago I preformed a semi-major tune up, just fluids change and I adjusted my valves. Idles smooth as butter now, idle is very steady and doesn't fluctuate much. HTH.
