Car is a '95 EX coupe, with a built LS/VTEC turbo.

Hondata S300 for management.




Recently I replaced my radiator hoses, and refilled the coolant system. Now, my car (according to my Hondata) is running about 208 to 214 degrees, and the Hondata will actually throw a CEL #11 (engine overheat - Hondata only code)

My fan is turning on, there are no leaks, the heater works fine. Why is the car getting so hot? I run 50/50 coolant, and am pretty sure there is no air in the system.

If I were to go by the factory guage in the dash, I wouldn't know there is a problem at all, because it stays at the slightly below half way mark as always.

but that damn CEL that the Hondata is throwing is warning me of something. So, how hot should I be? Any suggestions on getting those temps down? I've never had this problem before.

 

run a lower temp. thermostat, you could always remove it but i wouldnt, temp stays way down when you do

but why would it only start doing it now. I've had the car setup this way for 2 years now, with no issues. The only thing that clued me in was the CEL. When I pulled the code, I found that it isn't even a Honda code. Rather a fail safe that Hondata puts into their ECU's.

 

what was the reason for replacing your hoses? was it hotter than usual and are you sure you burped the coolant system fully? there could be a few factors in why it just popped up jus have to trace em down. if i was you i would clear the code and drive it normal for a few and see if it comes back, then make the decision to change anything

 

1st thing I thought of when i read the post is not burping the radiator and stuff after filling it up. I've seen that overheat cars and they burped it and it ran fine.

 

When the car is cold, pull off the rad cap, then turn the car on and let it idle until it warms up to operating temperature, then fill up the radiator, put the cap back on and see how it goes from there.

 

Any update on this? I'm having the same exact issues and just because of the amount of money I have into this built I went ahead and changed a ton of things just to be safe it still same problems. I'm located in Boston MA and our temps are currently low to mid 90's.

Replaced head gasket, water pump, 3 core rad, removed thermostat, added wetter and coolant lines to the turbo and waste gate and I made the fan to stay on.

Takes a lot longer to heat up now but eventually it gets there. Seems like it's long local drives and immediately once I exit the highway from a long enough drive "10 minutes". If I stay on hway and cruise the temps stay at 190-195 otherwise I'm close to 210 and I shut it off once I see it creeping.

Best advise i se I have seen on here is fabricating some duct work for the rad. Seems the intercooler blocking airflow may be the issue but if you know of anything else I'm open for suggestions.

 

I have the same exact problems as you I'm running a CSS block as well I noticed the holes didn't line up perfectly when I replaced the head gasket, it seems like they're meant for the ls head.
