the gaskets that separate the v/c from the spark plug tubes have gone bad most likely. New ones are pretty cheap

thats the cause for sure take the valve cover off and pop the old gromets off and replace. The old ones get hard and dont seal and let oil from the head to get under them and into your sparkplug holes

Btw, that's cylinder 4 and 3 you've shown there; not 1 and 2.

And yes, it's probably those spark plug o-rings that you need to replace to fix this.

Make sure you replace the VC gasket as well.

^x2 just inspect it thouroughly before putting the VC back on...ANY cracks or soft spots= replace. If it looks good, just make sure to hondabond the corners and get a good seat.

Exactly, you never know what kind of hidden damage or wear and tear there might be. But then again that's for people who don't want to do double the work.

You can pay them or lesson to us that have all been there.

Order a valve cover gasket set from your local Honda dealer.

Be careful re-tightening the weak old valve cover bolts. they will snap very easily. The gasket seals the oil not the tighteness of the "weak old" valve cover bolts. Get the hint there?

If were wrong you haven't lost that much money and you'd be buying a valve cover gasket set anyway's when your mechanic rebuild's the bottom end. This way here he can reuse them.

Oh yea, put a small dab of silcone sealant on the corners of the gasket by the cam tower (s).

I have no idea which engine you have but here,

when i changed the rocker cover in my 96 sir civic i forgot to put the rubber seals bk in . they just sit under the bottom of the cover and the plugs slide through them. i would check to see if they are ok before spendin time and money on piston rings.

Piston rings? Are you kidding? So, the oil blew by the rings, somehow didn't get burned up in the combustion chamber, and then managed to wiggle through all the threads on the spark plug to end up there? Or are the seals bad on the bottom of your valve cover? Which scenario sounds more likely? Maybe your mechanic missunderstood your situation, if not, you need a new mechanic!!
