Update: Stephanie (Jody M. incident)
I just wanted to give you guys a small update from what I heard today when I got into work from my supervisor regarding Stephanie. Seems like she's progressively improving and will be fine. She's still on morphine and does not know why she's in the hospital and such. So her family is watching who's coming in and out to see her since no one has broken the sad news to her yet regarding Jody. Stephanie might be taking a year off from CMU to recover. I hope all goes well for her.
News on the accident. What I heard from my supervisor was that the cops went back to the site and did some calculations as to how fast Jody was going up this hill and down and striking a tree. The specific road that this incident happened on has a speed limit of 35. Apparently, Jody was going about 110mph, got airborne and struck the tree, 10ft off the ground. I couldn't believe at first...and actually still can't believe what I just heard...So to all you ITR drivers, "SLOW DOWN!"
I know my friends with ITR drive pretty damn fast and the number one reason I hear is that the car just asks for it as the engine begs to be revved and the next thing you know...you are at least doing 80mph...I can see this because I've driven the ITR before...but still...just be smart.

Best of luck to Stephanie. It's just a real shame that the accident was totally avoidable. I was wishing and hoping that Jody's accident was not his fault, that something *happened* to cause this, other than his own poor decision.
Be careful, kids.
Good post on Stephanie.
I can't even say anything about Jody's driving, he did pull some insane things...I think the guys that were at Schenley park remember the e-brake 180...all 5 of us were like

! But please, don't turn this into a "it was his own fault, thread". Just learn from it, don't repeat it, and realize that their are still a lot of sensitive people over this

I can't imagine the hurt she is going to feel when she learns her friend is no more.
In some strange way, if somebody had to die in this "accident" (I hesitate to call it an accident when somebody goes at 110 mph in a 35 mph zone) it is better to be like this then the other way around.
I wish her good recovery.
And good luck to every one who are close to them.

It's terrible how young people loose their lives so tragically. Many say that they learn from these stories, but beg to differ. Drive carefully.
May peace be with you all,

The same thing just happened to a good buddy of mine from high school recently suffered the same fate...went 90 into a tree with his cousin in the passenger seat...they both died instantly
The kid was awesome...always smiling, the most optimistic guy ever. I guess bad things do happen to good people...
Sorry for the interjection...kind of relevant. We really do need to be smarter....its crazy when it hits close to home...

sorry to hear about the accident
but, i doubt she was driving 110 due to what the cops are saying
the way the calculate the speed out in cali is extremely off
they dont take to factor in the dynamics of the car, and the dynamics of the tire.
those 2 factors make a difference
hope she recovers soon

10 feet in the air is a lot. I don't doubt that the car was doing 110mph if the tree was really struck 10 feet up....
RIP Jody.
Best of luck to Stephanie.

Good to hear she is going to be OK. Thats crazy if its true that he was doing 110mph in a 35...Wonder what he was thinking and why he was driving so fast? we'll never know. Anyway its good to hear that she is going to be OK.
I go 110 in 35 zones all the time.
i hope your kidding....
We all have done crazy things before.

Sad but true, not everyone with a capable car can keep their ethuasiesm calm on the road. The "Take it to the track" slogan don't fit with reality.

you said she was on morphine, i never knew morphine was a legalized drug as a pain killer.. or is this different? aren't the side effects and the addiction enough to... not use it?
