so i was messing around with my cluster the other day and when i plugged it back in i realized my gas gauge was messed up. when i filled my tank up my gauge went down to empty and now that ive been driving it around its starting to rise up as if i have gas now. does anyone know how to fix this?

Check to make sure that when you put it back in (I assume you took it all the way apart including removing the gauge face, needle, and metal cylinder with the copper wire in it) that you put it in the correct way, if you reversed it or put the metal cylinder in in a different way it would cause that. Pretty much (if I am correct, and I may be wrong so please correct me if I am) the only way to reverse it like you have said would be to incorrectly put the metal cylinder with the copper wire back in to the white gauge piece. Hope this helps, let me know if it's confusing I'll try to clarify.

 

that is what i did. i took it all apart. but isnt there only one way for that copper thing to go back in?

 

No, its even on all sides and can be put in I think in two ways. Anyway, I would go ahead and take it apart again and check just to be sure.

yea, whenever u mess with the cluster needles they always seem to act up. redo, and hope its the last.

 

does it matter which way i put the needle back on? example if i put the needle on where its at empty or full? half way? ive messed with it a few times now.

 

Yes it matters. The gauge doesn't calibrate itself.

Fill the car, turn it on, give it a minute to raise all the way up, put needle on at FULL.

 

but the needle is reversed. i went an filled up my tank today. before i went it was way above full and when i filled it up it went a little below half way. does anyone have pictures of how it goes in? i have all the screws in the right spot there is metal threads on the three wholes the screws go into and nothgn in the other one i believe. should i try and just flip it the other way?

The way the needle is put on should not have an effect on it. Honestly, I don't have pictures, but I would continue to mess with the metal cylinder because it is the main thing that will reverse the needle like that. Eventually you should come up with the correct orientation to it.

 

i took the needle off again while in the car and waited about 5mins to put it back up. i put it on a little below full to see which way it goes. i dont really understand why it is going in reverse. if you could give detailed directions or something a little more understanding of what i should do id appreciate it.. im going to try n fix it a few more times n if i cant im just going to waste my money and buy a new cluster.(which i dont want to do)
