Default d series upgrade

hey guys two questions....
just bought a big 16g6 evo turbo with a 9.8 wheel to replace my cracked and leaky 14b on my d16y8.

1st question.... does anyone know what the stock internal wastegate actuator opens at on this turbo so i can decide whether or not to buy a boost controller because i can't be running 18psi on this turbo on a stock bottom end.

2nd question.... do you run the coolant lines to this turbo? i just plugged mine on the 14b but since this turbo is slightly bigger should i run them?

The 1st question I have no idea about the stock psi setting, however I would guess it to be ~10-15psi. I would call whomever you bought the turbo from and ask to see if they might be of some service. Also if it's an adjustable wastegate arm, you may want to adjust it all the way up so it's easier to move the internal flapper which means less amount of boost.

2. You don't HAVE to run the coolant lines, however it will provide cooling for the turbo which will give it a longer life span. It's probably a ball bearing turbo, which requires both oil and coolant. The oil is used for lubrication and the coolant is used to cool the turbo down.

Hope this helps.

Most non-Garretts need their coolant lines or they can be very short lived. I don't know particulars on every brand, but Garretts cooling passages address the oil inlet and some of the others directly cool the CHRA and bearings.
