if your just buying the shell does it really matter if its a type r or a clone? R's dont have sunroofs or side moldings and have five lug hubs if the suspension is still attached. ive seen a lot of type R five lug hub conversions and shaved moldings but dont think ive ever seen any one weld the sunroof closed so if you cant find a vin (probably stolen) and theres no sunroof its probably an R.

This has been discuss many times already. The itr body is reinforced in certain parts than a Gsr, ls or Rs. Basically the itr body is more ridgid...

RS doesnt have a sunroof/moonroof not just the ITR.

oops my bad.

what about the side moldings, is the R the only one that doesnt have them? if so look inside the rear quarters to see if the mounting holes have been welded closed.

sounds and looks stolen

Most of the differences between a GS-R and an ITR can be emulated on the GS-R, but some of the differences are impossible:

4. Thicker Rear Lower Arm Bracket
5. Thicker Rear Wheel Arch Extension
6. Thicker Rear Damper Gusset
7. Thicker Rear Roof Rail Upper
8. Thicker Rear Pillar Upper Girder
9. Increased Rear Wheelhouse Thickness

everything that makes an Itr an itr is gone (hence the theft) minus the vin, there isnt much sign of an itr.Easily rebuildable but there isnt much of an difference between an itr and a RS from what you have there in the pics.... I would still build it and save a couple bucks but with your op and your pics, I was just stating the difference= not much... except sound deatning....but I wouldnt take my post as negitive,I was just trying to help you out from the differences of what you have vs an RS.Do what you want to! Wish you the best of luck and I will prob do the same thing as you in a couple of years!!!!!
