Icon6 b16 passenger axle install

I replaced the axles on my b16 civic. As we all know, the passenger side axle (on a LHD civic) goes directly into the transmission. The part of the axle that goes into the trans has a c-clip which is supposed to keep it inside the trans when the axle is fully seated.

I am having a hard time trying to get the passenger axle fully seated. There is very little room to work so tapping it in with a hammer does not help.

Does anyone have any tips on tackling this problem? I've been trying to grease it up with wd-40 in hopes that it would slide in but I haven't had any luck.

i had the wheel on and drove the car around. eventually it popped out because the butt of the axle wasn't seated against the trans casing
