Default painted intercooler or not

Im a big fan of having a nice shiny intercooler hanging in the front bumper, but I also like the black intercooler sleeper type look, what do you think?

I voted black, but that is because I assume that you would go ahead and get the swain tec coating that reduces friction of any surface to another material , causing air to run smoother and faster across fins. According to them it can increase the cooling efficientcy of any thing it is put on. Some coat their intake manifolds with this stuff to increase flow to head. It comes in black.

Plus if it is black, no one will know you have a turbine untill they hear it boosting on past them.

We're now getting into anodizing intercoolers. Even Red, Blue, and Green are available.

I went black. sometimes i wish i hadnt for the bling factor, but having a sleeper is fun sometimes, and your car gets noticed less.

I'm sure they can be made, but we don't MAKE the intercoolers, we go through Garrett and our other vendors for the manufacture of them. In the kits that are being made, this is simply another option.

I did the same thing. I kinda regret it at times, but others it's nice to not be noticed.

Blacked out all the way. I like to keep a low profile and only stand out to those who have a trained eye.

y the regret ??

also the swain tec coating it comes in a can or something?? and where do u buy that stuff, sounds cool, id thought that coating it would reduce cooling effectiveness.

The coating Swain tech uses is a type of thermal insulator. This reduces the radiant exogenric heat that occurs with manifolds and turbine housings so that they can be used a bit more efficiently, keep engine temps down, and look good. The application is not like VHT which can be bought in a can.

I regret it b/c I just sprayed it flat black. If I could go back I would have gotten it anodized black instead.

black painted, black couplers, black clamps, and black piping (only the two pipes going to the IC).

HOWEVER...everyone in my state wants turbos for two reasons...a shiny intercooler, and a blow off valve, so I converted to the light side and stripped the paint when I swapped the motor to my civic to help with the sell...I know, I'm a sell out.

omgwtfbbq made a good point, its important to black out your piping and couplers that can be seen if you want the full stealth effect.

I vote shiny....

Not for bling, the black will chip off and look like crap after awhile, and I don't want to remove for a respray.

I done both. They both have their pros and cons. Now I'm still debating if I want to block my IC on my setup I'm finishing up.

Everyone should know from way back when in Science class that metal that is painted flat black, especially aluminum, dissipates heat faster than a shiny/reflective surface. Go black for function and the sleeper look or polish it because you want everyone to know exactly which car to steal... ***BOO TO THEIVES***
