Default How to wire my Vtec If I can.

Ok I just bought this car it came original with a 1.5 ( I thought it had a Vteck But it didnt)
The guy put a D16y8 In it with Vtec. I noticed it didnt have as much power as I thought it sould so when I looked under the hood the Vtec Solenoid and Oil switch isnt plugged in I cant find any were it would plug into so Im woundering if there is a way to wire it up. I had a friend I dont know if he was full of crap but he had a Crx he had wired to a switch he said.

You should get a P28 ECU. Even with the rpm switch thingy, you're still using an ECU that doesn't have the fuel and ignition maps for VTEC. So you're not going to see much of a gain in power.

Your oil pressure switch appears to be broken, with the 2 metal tabs just sticking out like that. So you'll need another switch side part of the plug, as well as the other half of the plug for that and the solenoid. Then you'll just have to run the wires from those plugs straight to the ECU.

msd sells a little box that goes to the dizzy to the fuse box and is activated by pilll i had 5k rpm on it and it worked awesome. but fuel changes in vtec (in the ecu) so if the ecu doesnt know about vtec it wont run as awsome if it was an ecu that had vtec
the msd box is for those that dont have a vtec ecu
or get a vtec ecu and wire the selonoid and signal to the ecu.
get a p28 or p72....is your car obd1 or 2?

THis is what I have a 1994 Honda Civic 4 door they swaped in the d16y8. So if I go by the ECU is there a more preferd set up for my car or Just find the ecu for that motor. Is it kinda a plug and play sort of deal and I just run the wires to the Solenoid or should I cut the whole ecu plug harness? Maybe I should look at the Ecu I have maybe he put the right one in but never ran the lines how would I tell if its the right one. Ecu in the car say p06-a02 and in big letters says AUI It has wrecking yard yellow numbers on it and says $175 lol

Maybe I could get one off ebay with a chip already installed doubt it

po6 is dx or lx. nonvtec. its worth $40. you can convert that ecu to have vtec and you can always convert an ecu from an AT to 5spd
just buy a vtec ecu, its easier.
run wires from the signal and pressure switch on the vtec and ground the black wire. run those 2 wires to the ecu. go to the junk yard and cut any ecu plug with good amount of wire. so you have pins. flip the plastic cap thing on the top of the plug and use a need and pry out the ecu pins out of the junk ecu plug. now you have pins. find where vtec goes. plug those pins in and then connect those wires to the 2 that you ran. dont cut your harness

92-95 civic si and ex had p28s. (vtec) get a 5spd one of course if thats what yours is. or a p72 will work (gsr) obd1 of course obd0 or 2 wont plug into your harness.
find some honda guys near you you can prolly just get vtec added to your po6. i had that done. works awesome

either one would work. get a p28 though if you can those came out of Sohc cars and thats what you have. but if you ever get a gsr motor or whatever. you can chip that ecu and make it universal to work with whatever. so p28 dont pay over $100 for one unless you can find one prechipped. thats a good deal. down the road if you go turbo or whatever you can just burn chips and put that chip in.

With a P28, it will plug right in. But you will need to go to a junkyard or somewhere and find some metal pins, so you can add the 2 wires to the ECU. So basically, you'll be adding wires from the solenoid and pressure switch, through the firewall, to empty slots in the ECU plugs.

Cool so I might just be able to grab any metal pins and wires out of a honda for that just to plug into the added spots.

no obd2 have dif size ecu pins. get any obd1 civic ecu plugs. cut a good 5 inches of wire and take the whole plug.

Ok I found a guy on Craigs list with a p28 that is chipped and tunned on a dyno when it was in his car. He had a 2000 civic with the d16y8 same motor as mine for 150. He did say when it was tunned it was hot out and he noticed in his car on cold winter days that the rpms would rev up and down from 500 to 700 rpm tell it warmed up what do you guys think.

On question if I run my single Vtec wire to A4 and I want to bypass the oil pressure switch then I take D6 and splice into a4? I have a single wire for the solnoid and suppose to have a 2 wires for the oil switch so if I put in the p28 that is how I bypass the oil switch or did I miss read and does my d16y8 have a knock sensor do I need to wire it up or since my computer will be chipped does that get bypassed? Also Since I dont have the vTec conector Im going to soldier and heat shrink the 2 wires together after I cut the connector off and run the wire to a4 on my new ECU with a prong sound good or am I kinda off in left field.

I just thought that since it was already chipped and tuned on a dyno and I dont have to do any soldier the chip in. Do they have alot of problems when chipped?

That doesn't pertain to the engine you have. Some JDM engines don't have the VTEC pressure switch at all, and it is controlled by the ECU. You do have it on your engine, so just wire it up to where it should be; pin D6.

The P28 ECU doesn't look for a knock sensor, so don't bother even wiring it up.

Get the connector, trust me. If you ever have to take the engine out, you're going to want that easy connection. You can find the connectors at a junkyard, it doesn't have to be from that specific engine. You can find them in Integras, Civics, Del Sols, Preludes, Accords, etc. And the pressure switch has 2 wires because one of those wires is a ground.

Thank you that cleared alot up I was just woundering about bypassing the oil switch because the housing is broke and none of the wrecking yards have one People around here yank honda motors out like candy. Ill have the computer in before I get the oil switch I read that if the oil switch isnt working your vtec wont work right.
