Icon6 HELP!!!98 teg non-v can i turbo stock internals?

heres the deal ive got a 98 teg with a motor that has bout 120k on it its really strong so far. i bought a full kit off ebay. I know iknow..... but lets get around that i bought crap. I bought a t3/t4 turbo, that maifold that saves the ac and power steering, external wastgate, fmu, manual pressure regulator, full pipe intercooler kit w/ blow off, a full tap kit to tap the oil pan. i havent bought injectors yet, ive got a electronic boost controller as well. this is my problem how can i install this full kit and not fry my pistons from preboosting when i go over 65 on the freeway. everyone tells me ill fryem quick this is my everyday driver. is there somethin i can install so i can do 85+ on the freeway cause i drive bout 60 miles a day on the freeway. and i really dont want to rip the head apart ta put turbo pistons in it. Im not tryin ta run 12s in the 1/4 mile or anythin i would be happy as well with jus doin 3-6 pounds all day. Man someone help me!!! ive got this kit starin me at me in my livin room i need ta do somethin with this soon! oh and i jus installed a wideband air/fuel gauge too!

So you have NO form of fuel management, but you made sure to get a boost controller? Talk about doing things backwards. And no, I don't consider that FMU as a form of fuel management. Ditch the FMU, get something like Crome at the bare min, get some injectors and get it tuned. Especially if you are so concerned about reliability. 3-6lbs is a complete waste of time, you will want to run more, trust me. 3lbs is a joke.

The "manual pressure regulator" was also a waste of time and money. Your stock regulator will work fine.

Make sure that the engine is internally sound w/ compression and leakdown tests needed to check the head and block. Also ensure that you have a good fuel filter and new fuel pump.

Management is most important, as well as the tuner is competent. Upgraded clutch may also be needed.

start reading the FAQs at the top of the forum to get some in depth information. Otherwise, Good luck to you.

I think you should do a lot more reading and educate yourself a little better before you try and take this on.

you said buy a crome whats that? but besides getting the motor all tested what can i do to this kit so i can fly on the freeway instead of bein stuck doin 65. my understanding is that any higher rpms thats when ill start to preboost and thats where ill loose my rings then pistins... correct? what can i do to get around that..... thats the only thing thats keepin me from throwin this $2200 investment in!!!

Mac (The Shodan) has given you more than adequate info you need in his previous post. As far as Crome goes, its a form of engine/fuel management. As far as your concern on turbocharging on stock internals, yes you can do and still be reliable, as long as your motor is healthy, your setup is adequate, and your tuner is competent. My stock LS has been on 304 whp for almost two years.

Read as much as you can in the Forced Induction FAQ's, the questions you have asked can be answered there, there's enough of these threads going around already, as they are asked daily WITHOUT people doing their research, or reading the FAQ's. Here's the link again just in case you missed it. Good luck.
