Default new exhaust

im lookin for a new exhaust setup. so the 3 piece systems are from where ur headers stop, or where the cat stops? mainly what i men is do the 3 piece exhaust systams have a cat in them or are they the next piece in line after the cat. i was gonna get a test pipe and wanted to know if thats not needed if i get a new 3 piece. also are the ebay exhaust piping okay? not the muffler i know they suck, the axel back and stuff...

A full exhaust system is called a "cat back system" meaning just that. Cat back. So no they do not have a cat in them. Well I run an eBay axel back till I get the funds for a WS2 or something, and I have no issues with it, it is a twin loop no name muffler and sounds fine no rust after a year or anything. As for the piping and really anything with eBay - its hit or miss. But be wise and you get what you pay for.

Edit: a great eBay shopping guide

Well, aftermarket exhausts are also known as "catbacks" because it goes from your cat...to the back A test pipe is meant to replace your cat, and yes, you'll need either a cat or a test pipe if you pick up an aftermarket exhaust, or else it'll be too short. However, I wouldn't recommend a test pipe because for one, it'll make your exhaust raspier; two, it's smelly without a cat; and three, it's illegal.

Honestly, some eBay mufflers are not bad. My buddy had a Greddy SP2 exhaust on his DC2 and he hacked the muffler off and put on an eBay Vibrant copy that cost 40 bucks...and surprisingly, it sounded awesome. The only thing is the construction isn't as good as the real deal so the insides will fall apart over time and it'll get louder.

What I would recommend is that you buy a cool muffler (whatever you like), and then go to a muffler shop and have them bend you some custom piping and stick a resonator on. Don't forget the resonator! It'll quiet your exhaust down and most importantly get rid of the dreaded ricer raspiness.

PS. an "axleback" is just a muffler with the piping that goes over the rear axle.

AFAIK it's just a pipe, so get the cheapest one you can find.

maybe if he wants his car to sound like a korean rocket. what i noticed about ebay el-cheapo exhaust systems is that they tend to leak by the crappy welds. there are some catback exhausts you can buy at a reasonable price. ive seen some espelir full catbacks at around 320 on ebay recently. otherwise if you really want to make your own go to kteller.com
