How many Speakers is "Enough" Do I need Rear Speakers?
Hey guys i need some opinions on this, I'm getting myself a Honda hatchback 1992-1995, and so far i got my system ready to go, I have an Alpine cda-7995, Alpine EQ 3342, Two Rockford amps, 800.4, and bd1000, and i got 2, 12 solobarics. Now for speakers i have MB Quarts QM218.16 and i was wondering if i would need read speakers also since the Honda Hatchback doesn't come with rear speakers. Would it be better, do i really need em? I was thinking since I'll be riding by myself most of the time the front speakers would be enough, so i didn't think about buying an extra pair rear speakers. Also if i do get another pair of speakers i was thinking of the QSDs, now should i stick with another set of QMs or should i get QSDs in the front and move the QMs i have right now to the back? Would there be a sound difference? Also one last question, if anyone else owns a hatchback, how and have rear speakers in them, how did you mount them?
Is this the first time you are putting your audio gear in a car?
All the stuff you listed seem to be overkill just with front speakers.
It depends on what you like, but whenever I drive a car that only has front speakers, no matter the quality of the system, I miss the surround feeling created by both front and back speakers,
Kind alike watching a THX surround movie with a surround system without the rear channels.
Again, try it and if you like the way it sounds and it doesn't get on your nerves then it's cool.
As far as placing the rear speakers, there are many options. Go to a local car audio place and ask them and they will give you a couple alternatives to where you could put them.
Good luck

Well i wouldn't say overkill, I really like quality in music, and i use to own coupe with the same setup other then i had rear speakers, i was just wondering if it would make a dramatic difference without rear speakers. I guess your right though, I wouldn't know till i get everything setup in my car, but how about the difference in speakers?? if i do get read speakers should i get the same QMs or should i get the QSDs??

As far as using same brand speakers all around again it depends. Say that you have a pair of a different brand around, Put them on and see for yourself. If you actually have to go out and buy new rear ones then buy the same if you do like the sound.
About 6 years ago I made my first car audio system.
Back then I used 2 phoenix golds with a cross over, a JB 12" pro and front and back Boston Acoustics Rallye speakers. Back then I used to think that was the best setup I could have. Then I heard a metric McIntosh amp palying with shitty sony speakers and I realized that every component on the system carries significant weight.
Whatever makes you happy, and doesn't put you in debt is what you should go for.
As far as it goes I am content with just the fronts on the 92-95 HB... I did want to install rears, but never got around to it... I think they are pre-wired for rear though if I remember right... I don't think that what you have is overkill if thats the sound you want out of it, but get a good security system... Let us know how it ends up
run just the fronts, and bi-amp them off the 800.4...that's what I would do.
Audio (most of it at least) is recorded in 2 channels, not 4...there is no such thing as surround (unless we are talkilng about specially recorded cds...but we are not)
Run just the front speakers. Save your money, and get them properly installed...I.E. kickpanels, some deadening, closed cell foam, etc. Geting them in the right spots will be far more rewarding then adding more speakers.
In this instance, more is not better.

best advice right there from rcurley....you'll just get better enjoyment with a properly setup front stage, and maybe a little rear fill to adjust the center to your liking.
