need some opinions about an ep3 i'm thinking of buying..
so i was at this dealership near mi house and i noticed they had an ep3, so i decided to go check it out today. its an 03 silver ep3 with red honda badges, sitting on k-sport suspension, and an injen cai. it also has some really nice rims, but are curb rashed to hell on one and bent onanother one. also it has 150k miles and a small dent on the hood. other than that it seems extremely clean inside and is pretty stock. test drove it and it runs pretty strong still and pulls pretty good through at any rpm and gear..
its going for 8900
does that seem pretty good for a 6 year old car with 150k miles but that still runs strong?? im just hoping to get maybe 1 or 2 years of good service from the car and then do a motor swap... but with at least 1 or 2 years of smooth running (so i can realistacly save enough for a low milage swap....
what do you guys think? will i get anywhere near that much time with the car? i do about 20k miles a year and don't drive like an idiot who just got a honda?..... also is 8900 a good price for this high milage beauty??.....

yeah i know man, the dealer also has a 00 black em1 with around 70k miles for the same price. looks clean and everything but i already owned a 99 em1 (which was stolen... i miss her...) and i REALLY want an ep3.... ep3s go for 10-11g all day with 70-100k miles...
Yeah you can find one with average miles for 8-9000 so keep searching and be patient. You'll find a good deal!
That may be true.. but I've for so long it just sucks to have to wait more. I've been carless since january and all the ep3s I've seen so far, although with less miles, have been treated like **** and exsessivly modded... this one is so clean and runs so smooth... they look like highway miles... hmmm I'll try and get them down to 8.5 or 8 even and I'll probabli be sold.... if anything else.. k24s seem to be pretty affordable nowadays..

My advice to you if your looking to get a quality ep3 for a good deal is.......................
1. Buy from a private seller
2. Just bring it to a good trusted mechanic to inspect it
I just bought my 02 ep3 last month for $6500 with 55k miles and mint condition. I totally understand just wanting to get a car though. If you plan on keeping it for awhile then go for it and don't worry about the miles if you're gonna swap. Do what makes ya happy man if you really want it!
I bought my '05 w/ 12k miles for $15k - but this was 2 years ago.
But I think $8900 is too much for a car w/ 150k miles. It's not JUST the motor that has that mileage...so does the chasis, all the suspension bushings, brakes, etc... I know swaps are easy, but it's a pain to maintain the rest of the "wear" items on a car with that many miles.
I'd lowball and offer the dealer $6k. After they laugh and reject you, I'd be patient and keep looking.

I own two of these cars, so I hope you won't mind if I chime in here.
Your instints to avoid a modified car are good. It's a sure bet that the owner of a modified car didn't drop it, change cams, add a header, Hondata, etc., so he could drive it to church once a week. So look for evidence of past chassis changes. If you don't know what to look for, buy an hour's labor from a known, trusted mechanic who's looking out for you.
WRT the car you found, I concur with the opinions above that $8900 for an EP3 with 150 thousand miles is simply too much. Regardless of how it was driven to this point, it's going to need engine, clutch, transmission, brake or accessories (sunroof, power windows, a/c) work -- something -- and unless you know how to do your own work, the cost of parts alone will eat you alive.
Good cars are out there. jzsickcivic (above) found one at an excellent price. In this regard, I recommend dealing with private sellers, not dealers. That way you can judge the seller and have some idea how the car was driven. Older owners (like me) seldom beat on our cars. We keep records.
And you don't have to limit yourself to cars that are advertised. If you see a good car or one that you are interested in, leave a note for the owner. Finally, WRT price, walk into any bank or credit union and ask a loan officer if s/he will tell you the loan value on a car you're interested in. That will give you a "home-town" estimate of what cars are selling for where you live. You ought to be able to take it from there.

also whats the redline on an ep3... i ran it in first and second and the motor revd quite willingli past the 7k redline... probli hit 75 before my shift because i was trying to see exactly where the redline was... any ideas? does the ep3 redline higher then that or was the computer modified......
wow i just went to kbb.com (kelley blue book) and an 03 ep3 with 150000 miles is valued at 9105 $.............
That's retail value, which is what a dealer should be posting it for sale as. Go to private seller and check what the excellent, good, and fair conditions go for. That's a good way to see how much you should spend. If you can find a private seller that's the best route since it will be cheaper. I brought cash and knocked $1000 off his original price.
^ plus to add on top of that it doesnt have OEM parts which will kill the price. if that wasnt coverd already in the above posts. sry im to lazy to read.
and redline on the eps dont go to 7500 its more like 6700 or 6800 damn cant belive i forgot lol. but i take mine to 7k
