oil light and vtec
It's a 1994 Accord EX Swaped to a 5speed.
My oil light keeps flashing, even though It's filled with oil. And Vtec isn't engaging. I'm using a 5 speed EX ECU (thanks TouringAccord) Oil level is full.
Any suggestions?
No CEL

Just to be sure, pull the negative battery cable overnight to reset the ECU. If that doesn't take care of it, think about replacing your oil pressure sending unit. As for VTEC, check you connections on the solenoid and pressure switch.
Also when the motor has been running for a while, and then You turn it off, should you still get a reading from the oil dipstick? I thought that you had to wait till the oil sinks down to the pan before you get a reading because I'm getting a reading even when the motot is running. Also the motor is making noise that sounds like loud tapping valves

Also check and clean the vtec solinoid<------not spelled right it could be gunked up or the seals could be old and brittle and it's not getting the right oil flow to engage vtec...
Worn out bearings can cause the intermittent and flashing oil light.
I would say the tapping sound you mention could be fixed with a valve adjustment, but where is it coming from? Have you checked valve lash?
Before you pull the thing, and tear it apart to inspect the bottom end. Another cause of both of these can be low oil pressure. This would also keep vtec from switching over.
I've got about 220k on the same engine that has yet to be pulled apart and rebuilt. I'd hold off on saying it needs new bearings until you're absolutely sure.

When I drive around it sounds like I dropped in a boxer motor. Oil pressure I believe is fine (it's at the second dot on the dipstick) The sound is coming from the bottom of the motor so I know now it's not the valves . The first thing I checked when I noticed Vtec was not engaging was the oil. The first time it started making the noise, the tranny had leaked all of the fluid (when It was Auto)
2nd dot meaning the top or the bottom? Is the level higher after it's been left off for awhile or the same? If you aren't using a filter with a check valve it should be lower after you crank it over.
Pan isn't dented? No sludge covering the sump? etc? I'm still thinking it's poor lubrication. It's pretty rare to hear about the bottom end in an F22 going out. Usually the rest of the car just rots apart around it.

I know that you found what the problem is but if it was your oil pressure sensor, the CEL should be on no matter what. That tells you one thing, Its either the oil pump housing or other internal problems like what you found out it was(Bearing, etc.)
