Icon3 how to prepare the CRX body for an engine swap?

well,, my CRX engine is already swapped with a B16A and I hope to get a k20 in future...

but here is my problem.. my car looks good , both exterior and interior. But when I'm accelerating quickly, I see body parts are vibrating (a big vibration, movement) and the hood looks like it is about to fly off!

And recently the noises coming when im driving (not in the highway, but in other normal roads) seems to be increased as well.

I took my car to a pro level modifying person and he told me the the body of the car is not ready to withstand the power and the vibrations of the engine. and He suggested me to get an EG8 and swap its engine!!!

I recently bought the CRX.

is this true that the CRX body is not capable of dealing with the engine vibrations?

if not,, please suggest me how to make it better?

( i want to get into local drag racing, and i also want to do both racing and every day driving without seeing my car being torn into parts everyday!)

someone please help me...

thanks in advance!

Unless your body is in very rough shape, frame rails etc. then you have nothing to worry about with the body. Jeff Evans, from Evans Tuning, has a 9 second B swapped CRX as well as many other people running B series in their CRX/EF chassis.

What kind of mounts are you using? Are they super stiff? i.e innovative/hasport race or solid mounts? Also if your motor sits to high in the engine bay this might be the reason your hood is vibrating. Different mounts place the motor higher or lower in the engine bay.

Using stiffer mounts will help the engine stay in place. Personally I have Hasport B series mounts and they are pretty stiff, my car used to shake a decent amount when it was cold out. It just depends, like I said, on what stiffness of the bushings you got in the mounts or no bushings at all (Solid Mounts).

thanks for the reply. im currently using the grand civic engine's mounts. can you please tell me what to use? I dont have a good knowladge about automobile parts. so please explain. if you can please give me a link to a webpage.

and my flywheel is lighten as well, i have a carbon clutch installed.

when I release the clutch in a drag, i feel a HUGE shock like my car is being hit by another one!

they suggest me to remove the carbon clutch and install a normal one.

any idea?

I'v never heard of "the grand civic engine's mounts" (Are they from ebay?) I'v always used hasport or innovative as they have proven they work and there are no issues with fitment or anything of that sort. www.hasport.com or www.innovativemounts.com

If the clutch installed is a high torque rated clutch, they are all like that. I have a 456ft lb of torque pressure plate and it's VERY tough to push in the clutch as well it "chatters" when you slowly release the clutch, however this is the nature of high tq rated pressure plates.

Depending on how much power you plan on running there are full faced and 6 puck clutches that will work for your application as well as be easier for DD.

Hopefully the one that told you that a CRX cannot hold up to a B series engine swap isnt the one that did your work for you. If I were you, I would switch shops if they did, because they have NO idea what they are talking about when it comes to Honda's.

the shock provided by the engine when shifting is ok, but im not sure whether its normal and good for the car body. is it ok to keep it in that way and shift?

and thanks for the links for the websites. but can you tell me the exact model best for the B16A?

yes, the person who did those engine swaps and modifications is a different one!!

And I want bring my CRX to best condition. But i was a little confused with all those words people told me. thanks for the explenation, now its clear. can you tell me what should I do to make the body condition better? body parts seems to be not fitting to each other and moving when the engine is started etc..

They are universal, it is just the Bseries into an EF, these will work for any B series application. Innovative are good for the price and have never had an issue, with these you can choose the stiffness of the mounts, street, street/strip or race (stiffest).

Hasports work very well, they are a little bit more expensive than the innovatives and you don't get to choose the bushing stiffness, but they look pretty and work very very well.

If it's primarily your hood and fenders then I would check to make sure the bolts under the hood are tight, again this might be in direct relation to the mounts that are currently in your car also.
