94 Accord - both fan motors shot
My repair shop has a diagnostic tool that showed that both of my fan motors are shot. Looks like to replace them the cost of just the two genuine honda replacement motors are $300+ So what I am wondering is if there is a generic replacement that is semi reliable or gets good reviews? I understand these things have to be able to put up with a lot because of the exposure they get to the elements.
Second question how hard would it be to replace them? Would I have to take the whole goddamn radiator out??
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I replaced the condenser fan in my 92 Accord a few years ago. The radiator does not come out. The fan brackets are all that come out. It's a tight squeeze. The fan motor was $50 I believe.

The problem is that I live in some fricking condos and I technically am not allowed to do car repair in my car port (there is a really nosey neighbor who watches the area like a hawk so I have to be stealthy and fast). Thanks!
If you have A/C, it will be a tight squeeze getting past those metal lines.
You didn't explain the reasons for taking your car into the mechanic - does the car overheat? Does it make scary noises? If the fans are just making noise, and still work, you can move the car a short distance and work in, say, the Autozone parking lot where you got the fan motors. That way, you can ask for a bit of quick help from the dudes who work there, if you need it.

Incidentally I found out today that the repair shop that diagnosed the problem charges $200+ per motor!! I told the shop I could get the honda part for $150 and could I just buy the part and maybe have them install it (not yet knowing how easy it is to replace myself) and they said they could do that but would have to charge more for labor in order to meet there overhead. So I wont be using them.
You can do it and it is not very hard.
1. Remove the Radiator Upper Bracket so that the radiator can be pulled forward to give you more space to pull the fans out.
2. Remove splash shield from the bottom of the radiator to easily remove the bottom's bolts. If do this, you need to jack the car up. You can also tried to looase the bottom bolts from top. It will be harder. But, can be done because I have done that once.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Again, if you jack the car up and remove the splash shield, it will be much easier to disconnt Radiabtor Fan's motor connector.
4. Remove the Condensor fan first to give more space for removing the Radiator Fan.
5. Then, remove the Radiator fan. It is a little bit hard because the space is very narrow. But, it can be down.

DO NOT PAY ANYONE TO DO THIS! It is way too easy!! DIY!
If you look at some of the fans on ebay or wherever, the bottom bolts don't have to be removed, just loosened and tightened once the fans are installed. The top of the fans mounting locations is self-explanatory.

For that compressor line that literally sits on the condensor fan, I bent it about a inch to remove the fan.
