Default Ti Retainers in my DD a good idea?

Well Ive read a couple instances where people say that the Ti retainers aren't good for dd due to there tendancy to "mushroom" after a while. But on the flip side I see people doing it all the time. Has anybody had any experiences with the Ti retainers failing after a couple years of driving?

Im rebuilding my GSR to mainly stock specs but I am supercharging in a few months and want to beef up my head for some ITR cams in the future. I already have a a complete set of RM gen1 springs and gen2 retainers that I purchased a while back but am now selling because I dont need the huge seat pressure for my mildly cammed and lightly boosted NA, prolly going to go with supertech valves and OEM retainers at this point. Just curious about the Ti Retainers

Ti has a tendency to work harden and become brittle while in contact with the spring. It should be considered a wear / consumable item, so if used in a DD, it should be examined / replaced with some frequency. There will be debate about what that frequency is.

For a mild cammed setup, the "benefit" of a Ti retainer will be marginal at best, especially in a non-competition purpose vehicle.

I say skip em.

My man, perfectly put! Thats what I was thinking, plus I could use the money elsewhere (maybe some true 2.5" exhaust piping to make my new exhaust).

If you choose not to run stock rets. I would suggest the crower steel rets.

I've heard that. Is there price roughly the same as Ti or cheaper because of the tact that steel is cheaper? And what gains are there with using the Crowers over OEM? Just the option to run a cam with higher lift?

KMS also makes steel/chromoly retainers that are priced cheap

Cool I'll check them out. Hey do you guys know of any where to buy a 2.5" exhaust piping kit for my DC2 so that I can make my own custom exhaust? I know Kteller does but did know if there was anywhere else I could look, maybe a shop that is more active on HT than Kteller.

I posted that question in the FI forum but just had some retard give me nonsence without even reading my original ost.

Thanks Fellas!!

No not at all, thats actually never the case. But for my project I do have a budget, and at this time I will probably just use my OEM retainers because I dont foresee me needing the ability to run some cams with huge lobes. I was just curious because of a post I saw when searching from 06 or 07. I also wanted to see what all of my options are before I make any decisions

If you're using stock cams, I agree, stock retainers are good to use.

Anytime you start really pushing the RPM, Ti is something to look at. Stay away from KMS.

Cool, thanks man. As of right now I'm looking into ITR bumpsticks or something else in a mild street cam. Just out of curiosity, why dont you recommend KMS?

mee too...

Im going to build my head using some of those and BLOX springs, wich are ok to use with stock retainers.

I just tought KMS ones would be slightly better.

My cams are Blox B and revcut will be arround 9k

I ran a set of Toda A cams, Skunk2 valve springs and stock retainers to 9k with no problems. Ti retainers are great for something more aggressive...I'd personally try to save weight by getting lighter aftermarket valves before I did retainers.

the ITR retainers are good, and I've heard great things about the Crower Cromoly/Steel retainers. They're both similar in cost, about $60-70

How high do you plan on revving anyway?
