ok sorry i have an 88 dx civic hatch, i just swapped the motor out of a 95 civic ex, i had the new motor plugged in to the map sensor for my old motor, the stock 88 civic dx one that is located on the firewall, so im guessing that was my problem with it running like ****?

you need a diff map sensor for the obd1 engine. it goes on top the throttle body. the plug from the old one will fit no prob you just have to lengthen the wires is all. you can leave the one unhooked on the firewall. it is now located on the tb. does same job just diff spot

Like he said just unplug the harness from the firewall mounted map and plug it into the map on the throttle body. You don't have to extend the wires to make it reach but it's not a bad idea.

There is no problem using either map sensor. They function the same and have the same plug.

hmmm, veerd. i didn't have to extend mine anyway

I haven't personally tried to use my obd0 map with my obd1 ecu, however i do not believe that it would work right. they may have the same connector, and same voltage range, however the obd1 map registers up to 1.8 bar, and obd0 only goes to 1.7. thats about a 1.5 psi difference at max voltage. which means that for example 1 bar on an obd0 map is going to provide a slightly different voltage than 1 bar with an obd1 map sensor. the ecu be it obd0 or obd1 is calibrated to the appropriate map sensor. if you use the wrong one, you will very likely be sending the ecu incorrect readings for how much air is getting into the engine.

actually whether the car was dpfi or mpfi the map would still be the same. but yes the issue is that you had an obd1 ecu interpreting voltages from an obd0 map.
