Default Amatuer question, dont laugh!

I think I may have the answer to this question but I am not sure. Is it true that 4-2-1 headers give more hp and 4-1 give more torque? Why is it that I have never seen a 4-1 header for 1990 honda accord?

The question has been answered. Please use the search tool next time.

You have it backwards, 4-1 are typically used if you want more hp than torque. 4-2-1 will give you more torque than the 4-1. It has to do with the relationship between velocity and flow of the exhaust gases.

You can learn more by searching the other posts.

The most common thing you hear is 4-2-1 makes more midrange power at the sacrifice of peak hp and 4-1 makes more peak power at the sacrifice of midrange power.

Is this always true?

Not these days, when we have long hybrid 4-2-1's which combine the extra length of a traditional 4-1 and the layout of a traditional 4-2-1 (or tri-Y as they are sometimes called) into one header. Why is this new and different?

The header's primary tubes, secondary tubes, and collectors length & diameter affect WHERE power is created along the rpm
range.

To understand how header design affects power and powerband location, you have to first understand how the ACTUAL or REAL torque curve is shaped relative to the IDEAL shape of the torque curve when there is maximal cylinder filling.....

That would be because more than likely the 4-1 header would be on a track Accord. As you know, (hopefully) your motor has little torque and even adding a 4-2-1 header reduces the torque even more. A 4-1 header with a stock motor would be impractical for a dd.

Are you looking to learn something about what header will suit your engine or just have someone tell you what might work? If you read that header & exhaust design thread it should tell you what your looking for.

Just in case your still wondering if there are any 4-1's for the F22's ask Bisi. I'm pretty sure his header is a 4-1 design.
