Default engine swap, d15b from d16z6, any real changes or straight swap?

HI there, I currently have the d16z6 motor and trans in my 1995 civic hatch, I am probably just going to swap a d15b jdm motor in it, I just want a reliable DD, with a little go without breaking my bank for sure, I dont need to go real fast. My questions are is it going to be a straight swap with harnesses and everything, or is there going to be any changes to be made with it?

Any help will be appreciated, Thanks!!

James

The D16z6 uses the obd1 p28 ecu.
Are you going to try to use that ecu for your d15b?

Is the engine gonna be a D15b JDM?
Or will it be a D15b7 from 92-95 civic usdm?

Its going to be the jdm d15b, not the usdm.

Yes you can use the obd1 Vtec p28 Ecu for your d15b JDM
But not for a D15b7 usdm

there are jdm non-vtec d15b's.

so long as its a vtec d15b then yes the p28 is what you want to use.

Yeah you can do a swap without any wiring problems.
And since your civic is 95 it is pre-wired for vtec in the shock tower.

yes his car is prewired for vtec but thats because he had a z6 to start with. if he had a d15b7 then no it would not have that wiring in the cabin harness. only the 92 model year was pre-wired.

wait whats wrong with the z6, the JDM d15b is like the same engine, unless yur z6 has like a cracked block, or bent valves its not worth swapping it in

Why don't you just rebuild the whole engine and put aftermarket parts into the rebuilt engine? You save time and money (I think)

Thats a possibility to, how much does it usually cost to do a rebuild? IF any knows, I will research it myself as well.

Don't worry, the dude's on the right track! The D15B goes for $350-$500 depending where you go. If it's a low-mileage one, then it'll be worth it, and then he can rebuild his z6 if he wants to. And yes, only ALL 92s were pre-wired for VTEC. After that, only models that came with VTEC, were wired for it.

Thanks, the current motor has a good amount of miles, that is why im want to do the swap, in your opinion, would you do the swap, or rebuild the current one? also, would the transmission bolt right up, or would I have to get a d15b trans with the swap?thanks alot all of you!!

swap in the d15b, rebuild the z6 for boost, the z6 trans will bolt right up since all 92-00 trans are interchangeable,

Thanks, and everything went ok with it for him? Was it a direct swap for him, or did he have to change anything around?

direct swap if its the vtec 1.5

reuse your ecu

while its outta the car, freshen up the 1.5 with water pump, timing belt, upper and lower seals, the works. that way when its instyalled, it stays untouched for several thousand miels without any sort of issues

or it may be more worth while to fix up the Z6 and make it have a bit more grunt

Chip your ecu or get a P08. The P28 with z6 maps will run the motor but its not the right one for the setup.

I opened up both maps in Crome and the timing/fuel values are different.

Also, this link will help you:

Quick edit: Here is a thread on a guy swapping a D15B into his car with tons of pics.
