Speedometer not working...
I've had a problem with my speedometer not reading the MPH for a while but it's really gotten to me now. I've changed the speed sensor like 3 times, changed back to my original cluster, changed the plug on the speed sensor, checked the wiring under the intake manifold and still the damn thing doesn't read the MPH. Can it be the transmission itself? if it helps, I full throttled the car in first gear the other day and the needle moved up to about 80 MPH and came back down quickly. What can it be? thanks! BTW, it's a D16Y7.

Do you have CEL code 17?
The VSS has three wires -- (1) power wire from fuse 15, (2) ground wire, and (3) signal wire that branches to the cluster and gauge assembly. Check at the VSS connector that the power wire has battery voltage, the ground wire has continuity to ground, and the signal wire has continuity but no shorts.

There is a tiny gear that is inside the transmission. If everything checks out wiring wise you may need to replace the VSS speed gear. It hardly ever goes bad but if it breaks replacing the VSS won't fix the issue.
First, check the wiring and then the actual VSS gear.
