Fix D16y8 ISB or buy b16 swap
I have a d16y8 with a bad input shaft bearing and the engine only has 50,000 miles should i fix the d16 or buy b16 that i have been wanting to do for a while? what do you guys think. Also would the d16 be faster than the b16 or would it be the same?
The input shaft bearing is in the transmission. Why not get another tranny or fix the one you have?
If you want to swap, do it. The B16A is faster than the D16Y8.

well i have never done any kind of tranny work so, would you guys think it would be hard for someone like me to do the work? i also have the helms manual for my car
manual transmission are easy to disassemble. just watch the way to take things apart and you will not have a problem going back together, this is how i do almost everything and it always has a good outcome, although it is nice to have a parts book to tell you what the part is
If your not good at fixing/opening aprt trannys then just swap Tranny's with a used one for $300
Im 16 and swapped a manual tranny on a 94 Jetta 2.0l with my friend, we got the tranny for $250, Installed it in a week, because we have school everyday.

rebuilding trannys is fairly simple especially if its just the isb replacement. I know dseries.org has a write up on it. i did it myself including synchro replacement and gears. it took about 15 ,inutes to completely disassemble the tranny once I had it out.
If you have the money for a b16/b18 this might be a sign to upgrade, if not then a new tranny will do. If you'll be doing it urself make sure to have all the tools and be sure to have some friends who know what there doing help you out.
