Can someone please tell me what obd1 means? (and other engine swap questions)
obd1 - I see this in a couple places and i'm wondering what it means? I have a dohc d15b7 and need to make sure that everything will go together. (mine is a 1992 civic dx)
Last engine i got for 200 bucks was from a guy who got it from pullapart and the damn thing had no compression on one cyl and low on 3 others. SO I gotta buy another one.
So will a d16z6 fit in my car with no modification?
What about a b18? I see those on craigslist a lot?
Lastly, will a 01-05 civic engine fit in mine? There's one with 9000 miles on it for $350!

A. I have been reading and googling without any luck so i figured i'd post this since i'm kinda in a tight spot and this engine could be sold at any time. I know how to use a forum, but I'm pressed for time.

so u have a SOHC d15b7 then..the most logical swaps would be another single, a d15b, d16z6 or d16y8 are ur most powerful and best sohc... you wont need much to put these in and go for 400$ with low miles.
now goin b series u will need alot axels, computer, mounts just to name a few...

Thanks, i mean i already know what it stands for, but does it mean anything as far as picking an engine goes? Eg. How do i know i have obd1 or obd2 or what the engine i am getting is? Does it mean vtec or no? or does that matter? Basically i need to make sure i'm not going to need to new harnesses or computers etc.

z6 and y8 are just the type of engine. both are sohc vtec. the y-series engines are more prone to spun rod bearings though. they both make about the same power, you won't feel any difference between the two. the z6 came in the 92-95 civic ex/si and del sol si, y8 came in the 96-00 civic ex

Just because i don't know anything about civic's doesn't mean I can't learn. And i'm pretty sure you'd be pretty clueless if we started talking about Aprilia's /rollseyes So take your comment (which was a clone of the one above) and go put that effort into something more fitting like like the 4chan boards.
To the above, about the vtech harness. I was told that i DIDN'T have the right connector on my harness, considering my car is NOT vtec, and that I would have to run three wires to the vtec solendoid. And that even then it wouldn't work properly until I get a p28 vtec computer. (which i assumed)

Your car is a 1992, so your car (As do all 1992 civics) is pre-wired for Vtec at the shock-tower harnesses (After 1992, they are not, and you have to run wires all the way to the ECU, but again, you have a 1992, so those wires are ALREADY there, I know this from first hand experience), so a D16Z6/D15B engine and their associated wiring harness would plug/bolt DIRECTLY in, no modifications. (And to clarify MORE, The D16Z6 was only built from 92-95 in the US, so ANY Z6 wiring harness should work directly with your car, OR with a D15B, You do not want a motor newer than 95 as you will have to begin modifying your wiring (Ala a D15Y8, which in all honesty is an inferior motor in several regards TO the D16Z6)
YES you can run a D16Z6/D15B with your P06 (Factory D15B7) ECU, it will not run 100%, and it will have all kinds of ****ed up fuel ratios above 5000RPM, but yes, it will get you to work and back etc. You will want a P28, which can be had for $50-75.
You do not want a D15B2 ("setup for dual point injection") That is an OBD-0 motor and will not work without extensive changes/modifications to its wiring/sensors.
B18B1 swaps can be found for under $800 all day long, and ALL of the questions you've asked are answered in the FAQ's, or with the search feature on this website, please use them both.
thanks to several of you for being so helpful. I understand the hazing rituals in forums, but i also understand when people are pressed for time and just need some immediate quick answers. there is LOOOOT on info in the facts which i have spent some time reading today, but i've had a lot of work to do.
Sadly, the vtec engine just sold about an hour ago and the guy called to let me know since i didn't call him back after i first put in dibs. (2nd person) So It's back to looking for d15b's on craiglist.

dude check out importers, u wont find jdm engines on craigslist, besides they go for like 4 bills shipped wit like 30k miles anyway...
www.noyanusa.com
any links to some good ones? If they really go for 400 SHIPPED, then point me in that direction because i don't think i could pass up a deal like that.
And you do find jdm stuff on craigslist when you don't live in bfe.
I dealt with these guys years ago, they were pretty good. Bought a B20B for an EG in 06

OOO, just found another motor! It's a D16Z6 right, only one problem, listing says it's OBD0?
Did you guys just tell me above that D16z6 will drop in without modification and that they are obd1?
(ok, i was just told the harness and dizzy came out of an 89 si ef hatch)
I'm still confused though, can i use my harness and dizzy? Where will the vtec plug in on the engine?

correct. z6's are obd1. now someone might have had said engine in an obd0 car and they may have an obd0 distributor on it and/or obd0 injectors.
