1995 civic si steering issue
this just started within the last 2 days. when driving at highway speeds, my front end pulls left and right. symptom is worse when cornering on the high. when going around curves, you can feel the car pull left and right pretty aggressively. is this a steering rack issue or maybe something else. anyone else ever experience this. it feels almost like driving fast with strong winds blowing you across the road, tracking back and forth.
it does sound like a rack. I would make sure the suspension is tight and your motor mounts. And then if that is all good, raise the front end and turn the car on and see if the wheel turns. one of the seals probably blew. If you replace it change all the fluid. most people dont know tat all vehicle fluids need to be changed. even the axle fluid. just kidding.
It could be that your rack is blown but it could also be some other more simple issues. How long has it been since you had the car aligned? Alignment can result in pulling to either side. Also, under acceleration our little cars have some torque steer. The axles are unequal length and so that causes the car to pull to one side or the other under hard acceleration.
The other possible issue could be the front lower control arm bushings. When they go bad your car will have sloppy steering allowing the car to drift/pull from one side to the other. Check those out before you replace the steering rack.
Any alignment shop can check all of those things for you and will do so for free since they want you to pay for an alignment. However you can always have them check it out and then say "I'll come back" and fix the problem yourself.
