I was wondering if you take the distributor cap and rotor off and try to start the car what will happen? I mean besides the obvious it won't start (which is not an issue since it doesn't start anyway). The car isn't getting any spark, and I replaced the cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, and next is going to be the ignitor, but I want to check for signs of power getting to it. So if you try to crank the car while testing for power to the ignitor while the cap and rotor is off, will it throw anything off like timing or what not? Also if the timing is off would there be spark still? or not? Thanks for your help!

Edit: It's not on a Honda, its on a 94 Camry, but I figured this would be a universal question so it wouldn't hurt to post up.

 

On Hondas you might destroy the coil/igniter if you apply power to them and there's no way for that high voltage to go.

You can check for power with the key in ON(II) and not trying to start it.

 

Ok yea thats what i was thinking, I was figuring I would try it first with just turing the key to ON but didn't know if it would do the same thing as trying to start it. But I will stick with just the ON. Good looking out.
