i own a 1998 civic ex d16y8 and when im at an idle i can hear a slight ticking noise that does not sound to normal, intake manifold gasket ripped??? suggestions

 

valve adjust perhaps?

I was going to create a thread like this, but I searched and found this one to bump. Does anyone have info on the ticking in a stock D16Y8 motor? When i just sit idle, the car makes a ticking noise from under the hood. The car runs fine, nothing wrong at all, but I just hear this tick, not very loud, but it's definitly there. Not sure what's going on with it. It doesn't affect the performance, but it's a little annoying, and I want to make sure it's not a problem. Any help would be great, thanks.

Doubt it, I'm pretty sure my car is in great working condition, and I don't think there is really a problem. It's not a ticking per se, but it's a faint noise that comes from under the hood. It's just a soft tick almost, not like a TICK TICK TICK. Haha, very hard to explain without hearing it, but it's not really a big issue.

I was looking for an answer more like, "yeah, stock d16y8 motors have a notorious tick that is just there, it's normal, and doesn't affect anything". I'm not sure if it's a common problem or just something that is normal for my car to do when idling. Any commonalities like this among the y8 motors?

 

I have a Y8 and also hear a small tick on idle but goes away when hot, its pretty normal my friends y7 does the same, y7/y8 have poor oil pumps.

 

i have the same issue with my b16a2 engine went and got it looked at... it sounds to me like that the chatter(not nessicarly a tick tick tick but sort of i know what you mean you have to lisitin to it to explain it in better detail) but they said that i have 2 valves that need to be adjusted... not a big deal i thought it was a rod knocking but most deffinatly my valves so im sure you have the same issue any honda dealership can do it for under 100 bucks or you can do it for free + tools if you have em and the time

 

all honda injectors tick pretty loudly. that is normal.

if you do a valve adjustment and it doesnt go away, and you arent having any performance or idle issues, then i would guess it is the injectors.
