Default Cams= Good Power

Okay, I am need of a good power upgrade. (bout time) I was looking at cams, but there are so many to choose from. I want a set, that makes good power top end, mid range sure, but daily drivability. I would like to retain stock springs and retainers, but if its an upgrade, so be it. I wonder if I can keep the bottom end stock? Would I need to up grade as well??
Intake manifold is will be one the way after cams. crap, I for got the tune...

When upgrading the cams springs and retainers are a good idea. When I had and LS i used SLR cams, they worked really well, made power to 8000 RPM but also drove well as a daily driver.

Regarding the bottom end: If you plan on revving higher than stock - which you'll probably want to do in order to take full advantage of bigger cams and a re-tune - I would highly recommend at least upgrading the rod bolts unless you enjoy spinning rod bearings due to rod bolt stretch. The same problem plagues LS-VTEC and B20-VTEC bilds with stock bottom ends; the wimpy original rod bolts can't handle the forces generated by revving above 7200 RPM constantly.

Those aren't going to work too well in a non-VTEC head . . .

SLR?? how much power did you make? Seems like springs/retianers are a must. I would rather be safe then have valve float and destroy everthing. looks like I should be ready. Thanks guys.
