oil light on cluster will be on, and will leak oil if it's not there.

I mean the sensor is there, but the connector is broken, does it control the oil pressure somehow or just monitors it?

If the wire which connects to the oil pressure switch is disconnected the oil pressure warning light will NOT fuction at all. It should come on when the ignition is switched on, before you start the car. Then it will go off as soon as the engine starts. It will then only come on when driving if the oil pressure is too low or too high. The warning light not functioning has no effect on how the car runs and it doesnt control oil pressure. It is just a switch ativated by low of high pressure. In the manual it doesnt say it will come on if pressure too high. But i overfilled my lude once and it came on so i had to drain a bit of oil out of the sump.

That only switches the oil light on the dash. It doesn't do anything else.

It does NOT come on if pressure is too high. Only if pressure drops below 7.5PSI, IIRC (I can look in the manual if you want). It's fairly useless as far as warnings go, as if it comes on, you've likely damaged something already.

BTW, overfilling the sump does not cause high oil pressure.

Too late, this is after 1,500 miles of my build:

The oil light would go on 2 weeks before I started parting everything out, I was never able to find the problem, it would just die after reving it and the oil light would go on, it started to flash even after just turning on the car just recently, so **** it.

117: Thanks for letting me know that the sensor doesnt detect high oil pressure. I should have known that if the Honda service manual doenst say the sensor detects high oil pressure then it doesnt.
I am still unsure why my oil light came on with the engine overfilled with oil, and why it
went off when i let the oil out. Anyway hope weve answered your question Meanshyguy.
