Icon2 Motor Mounts..

Okay so kinda of a newbie question here, I have a 93 Del Sol SI that i turbo'd d16z6.. My question is how important are the two lower motor mounts? Do i have to have them on there? most of the racing mount kits only come with 3 mounts 1 for the L bracket and 2 for the top. That's the reason i was wondering. thanks in advance!

if you are running stock mounts use all of them, the reason why i think aftermartket ones like hasports only use 3 bc they are waayyyy stronger than stock floating mounts. you dnt want the motor to fall to the ground . thats about all i can say bc i dnt know what mounts you have

you can take out your 2 torque mounts.. the bottom 2. if your getting stronger mounts it helps. but even with stock mounts it doesnt matter...they are (torque) mounts they dont hold the motor in. they only give you rmotor a limit to how far they can move front and back. get nice motor mounts and ditch the 2 bottom ones....i have a gsr motor with turbo and i beat it up with nice mounts(no torque mounts) and my motor hasnt fallen out

I recommend you keep the bottom mounts.

If you want to fill the OEM mounts with caulking that should be fine.

IMO you want all the help you can get to keep the bottom of the engine from moving.

I had solid steel mounts made for our race car. Never missed a shift.

Yes, listen to this guy.

More evidence here: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...=torque+mounts

Just cause rick_rabies's engine hasn't fallen out yet doesn't mean it never will.

I would keep them on also so the engine doesn't move as much.

I can tell you for a fact that they make a difference in the ride of your car. If you pull out the bottom isolator mounts you will allow your motor to rotate slightly when torque is applied. So, if you have a manual transmission and you throw it into reverse the engine will shudder/wiggle whilst you let off of the clutch.

Your engine will also move/twist when you step on the gas and the torque from the motor and flywheel start spooling up. As a result your engine will rock back and forth which can cause your upper and rear mounts to fail sooner than they should. If you invest $350 in HASport mounts don't cheap out on the lower isolators. Those $35 lower mounts will give your upper mounts much longer life and your car much smoother driving and shifting.

Honda put those mounts there to keep the engine located in the frame and engine bay. They are there to act as isolators from the twisting of the motor. The twisting is most noticeable in reverse since that gearing is the tallest and makes the most torque at the lowest RPMs. I just pulled my 2 lower mounts out and replaced both of them with factory replacements and now my motor doesn't rotate at all under load.Keep them. There is no benefit from removing them.

I took pictures of my old isolator mounts and once of the new replacements. I also took photos of where they are located when you look inside your engine bay. If you look closely you can see that these mounts are heavy duty and are designed to help your engine stay put!

even if you run aftermarket mounts you still need to run the torque mounts. not only do they keep the engine from torquing but they are a safety feature as well. they keep the engine from entering the passenger compartment in the event of a crash.

Yeah, what a helpful post! Look, it is your *OPINION* that you don't need torque mounts. You are clearly in the minority on this. There are countless posts where people who did not run torque mounts had their engines fall out of their car. The fact is no matter what mounts one is running, they also need to run the torque mounts. The user Hasport, really is Hasport, as in the motor mount manufacturer. If he says you need them, and he makes the mounts, why would he be wrong? I strongly suggest that you take your own advice "PLEASE DO NOT REPLY UNLESS YOU HAVE AN ANSWER FROM SELF EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE OF SPECIFIED SUBJECT." Because in this case, you don't have true knowledge of the subject. You just have anecdotal evidence to support your arrogant claim that your engine will never fall out cause you use super duper special motor mounts and you are more special than other people so your engine will never fall out. You can choose to run no torque mounts if you wish, but please stop giving people unsafe and incorrect advice.

I thought running aftermarket mounts for swaps and whatnot you didn't need to use the torque mounts. Hm I learned something new today...but I see countless pics of people with aftermarket mounts and no torque mounts.

Listen to 92SI, look at the pictures posted shailoche, the engine moves forward and backwards when "under load", the lower mounts are at the best location to stop this from happening. Aftermarket mounts with the lower torque arms is a bulletproof set-up, I only have stock mounts with inserts, put some bolts thru the torque mounts to keep the inserts from popping out.

good. Honda intended those to be installed for a reason. even if you have 95A racing mounts, you should still have the lowers.

I myself am saving up for the billet ones that axis offers. much stiffer, bling bling, and will last a long time. plus the mounts they make have easily replacable bushings for when you want a softer or harder setup
