stripped bolt!! help!!!
hey there guys, i have a problem. im trying to change out my oil pan and ended up stripping one of the bolts that connects the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. any ideas on how to take it off? call a couple muffler shops but they wanted to charge around 170 to take it off. please help!! thanks
If your bad bolt is connecting the manifold (header) to the pipe (cat), then you should be able to grind it off and punch it through.
If your bad bolt is connecting the manifold (header) to the HEAD, then pay the $170 and don't mess with attempting to tap the steel bolt out of the aluminum head. Maybe a photo of the location will help.

The OP may have been trying to remove his oil pan and his manifold/exhaust system needed to be lowered, for the oil pan to clear the oil pick-up.
I have done this on other cars:
put the car on stands, then
I removed the bolts from the head, where the manifold/header is connected. The exhaust system will slide down enough for the oil pan to slide past the oil pick up.
I have not had to remove my oil pan from my 08 SI, yet.
So, I am not sure, about this car.
