Does the engine lack spark? Did you retrieve a distributor sensor code from the ECU?
If there's no spark and no distributor sensor codes, then remove and test the coil and igniter unit in the distributor. Some auto parts stores will do this for you. Also, do you measure battery voltage on the Black/Yellow wire attached to the igniter unit with the key in ON(II)?

Ronj@aHt...how did you learn all this stuff? i think you should make a sticky of complex solutions to complex problems that are beyond the basics. not to thread jack, jus an idea

Well the mechanic said change the ignition coil in the distributor first so we did, bought a new one on ebay and replaced it and now it won't turn on
before we replaced the IG coil tho it was turning on and staying on but it shakes erratically and no matter how much u press accelerator it won't go

Generally when you have ignition problems with these old cars, most of us recommend buying a rebuilt dizzy. There about $170.00 and comes with all new internals.
How much did you pay for the coil ?

Yeah, I too rely on these important types of experiences and then use the service manuals to make sure I get the details right.
my car isn't getting any spark at all and i just changed my distributer cap not to long ago and i checked and it's not getting a spark at the plug.
