How much power Shot peened LS rods?
So I ran across someone that can shot peen my LS rods for cheap cheap, but wondering if it's going to hold up. I'm planning on the below to begin with, but moving to ls/vtec later. The current motor has been boosted with 11psi on the same turbo set up for 50k. time for a little building, starting with the bottom.
So will shot peened ls rods hold up for the starting and ending goal???
LS B18B
stock head
cp pistons 9:1 pistons stock bore
shot peened rods
Posted Block @ 18lbs
T3/T4 57 trim 50ar cold/48ar hot
2 1.5 down pipe
3" cat
3" cat back
starting goal - 300 @ 18lbs on the ls motor no head work
ending goal - 400 @ 18lbs on ls/vtec

Well ls rods will hold 300+hp all day long if tuned right. If they have arp rod bearing bolts in then then they will b more reliable. But as far as shot peened rods, that's a old hot rod trick that i personally think is a wast of time and money. Really all that's doing is hardening the rod. That may sound good to someone that doesn't know much about any type of metal but that's making it more brittle and than if it sees any detonation than its definitely gonna crack and break. Your motor is only gonna be as strong as its weakest link. Just spend the money and buy rods. you can get eagle h beams on ebay anywhere from $200-$300. You just have to look around, and not jump on the first thing you find.
Just go with forged rods, and ARP rod bolts...
You can make that power on stock rods, but after you do the VTEC conversion, they'll be waiting to snap from the increased revs, same goes with the rod bolts.

like they said and my friend that works in a High Performance Motor Machine Shop, its pointless, for the price your going to be paying for them to be shotpeen'd you can practically afford forged rods.
The reason I think it has become popular, is with the All motor builds is because with ITR pistons you have to notch the eagle rods to fit. Somebody, Correct me if I'm wrong but I am pretty sure I herd that from a friend. (I would like to know for future reference also.)

just spend the $300 and get some Eagle rods they are advertised to 900hp so you will not have to get the motor rebalanced if you deside you want more power all you will is larger injectors, jump the boost and retune
