Auto Mechanic question...$550 worth it for auto/labor..???
I have a guy that is willing to work on my car. He knows his stuff and is attending UTI in august. Here's a list of the work he will be performing:
-replace tie rods
-timing belt
-02 sensor
-water pump
-head gaskets
-checking compression
-Adjusting valves
-and checking for anything else that may be wrong
I'm giving him a flat $550 for parts and for his labor...and he agreed...Is it worth it????..im sure it is, but just wanting your opinion..thx

umm... wow, all that INCLUDING changing the head gasket?? That's gotta be worth at least $1K in labor alone.
Are you sure he's actually going to remove the head and replace the head gasket? Or is it really the valve cover gasket that's getting replaced? Even still, yes that's a damn good deal, if he uses quality parts and he knows what he's doing. Just make sure he doesn't use cheap POS parts. OEM Honda is preferred.

OEM parts should only be $150-$200, so if he's willing to do it for ~$350 labor then that's cool.
Does he have experience working on Hondas, though?

Honestly, from experience, if he doesn't work on Honda's on a daily basis then i would get someone else. Although he may work on cars with his dad and all, he wont have the complete understanding of the Honda engine, what to look for, what NOT to do etc. And i bet he is used to working on vehicles with little to no electrical connections like an Integra does. And that as everyone can tell you can be a nightmare.

thats its pretty much a good deal cuz the head gasket only is an expensive job and that like 500 by itself and if he getting OEM parts too man your getting a deal... just make sure he is really doing all that for u. and not cheating u out and say he did it... because if u dont know to much. he can easy say he did it all and just do some of the work

I can do everything you have listed. I would pay someone else $500 to do all that on my own car if he knew what he was doing (I would have to know him to trust him) and it covered parts.
