I am planning on doing an engine swap I want a fast car for the 1/4 mile I dont care all that much about top speed, I am problably going to spend about 2000 from the start just for the base engine to build on what should i go with, any opinions would be great

If you are going to go through all the expense of buying a mount kit anyway, qhy not do a B20 rather than a B18A1? I guarantee you that if you rode in both, you would find that the B20 is worth every penny over the B18A1.

 

Why go b18a1 when you can have more torque with the b20. I would suggest doing the b20 swap.

 

where is a good cheap place to get the b18 or the b20

You could get a zc for $500 then take the rest of your $$ and build it up. It'll run 12's if you put the right mods on it.

 

sohc vtec motor=$400 depending on where you live but it should be cheap then a turbo kit im not sure what you would go for but after everything is done you might run high 13s depending on your setup

i would say that b16a is not your best quarter mile performer, depends what car you have but your probably looking at mid 14's from a civic/crx. the b18a can be just as quick (i've seen it) but thats a whole other debate.

a b20 would have great torque, if you can find one for a good price. an ls/vtec or b20/vtec is what your gonna need to run 12's n/a imo.

rwd second that or get a 92 talon...tsi awd do a 16g turbo for less then a 1000...then fmic and the normal mods exhaust intake and runs 12's

 

i've seen quite a few B16A's run 12's but they were built. I would suggest a crvtec for torque and high end power.
