Default 94 accord, won't shift out of park, messed with stereo wires...

I just bought a 94 Accord, it drove fine home. It had no stereo, so I decided to put one in. The wires were cut, so I was trying them to figure out what did what....NOW the car won't shift out of park unless using the shift lock keyhole, and it uses one gear when in drive....second or third. It'll go into first if shifted to it, but won't use second when shifted to it. Brake lights work. HELP!!!

I checked all fuses I could find. Brake light fuse was blown, that got the windows and sunroof working again.... I keep reading about "limp-home mode" and the brake light switch...

Go to 12volt.com and find out the real use of each wire and redue the stereo.

check your cruise control fuse, i dont know how it all ties into one but i was messing with my car last time and my car wouldnt get out of park unless i used the shift lock keyhole. Looked at my fuses and found the cruise control blown, replaced it, car worked fine

Hi, I have a similar problem. I found one night that I couldn't shift out of park and that the shift-lock solenoid was no longer making a noise. Rather than test it out properly, I disconnected the solenoid linkage. After putting the console all back together, I then found my cruise control was no longer working but my brake lights are.

Does the brake light switch have a seperate 'switch' or set of cables inside specifically for the cruise control, or is it a simple switch - ie. 2 wires only? My car is at home at the moment and I'm toying with the idea of going to an auto-electrician. I don't care about the shiftlock solenoid - I just want my cruise control back.

Thanks
