Default Engine acting up after clutch installation

I'm terrible at explaining things, so I'm just going to list the facts. Trust me, this is better than me explaining it in the normal way.
  • 1993 Del Sol w/ b18cr swap
  • hondata s200, skunk2 pro1 cams, supertech valve springs & titanium retainers, skunk2 pro series cam gears, rage tri-y headers and 2.5" stainless steel exhaust
  • Engine has less than 35,000 miles
  • just installed new clutch, currently in break-in period
  • car drove perfect for first 300 miles after new clutch
  • suddenly getting a CEL every once and awhile
  • CEL never lasts for more than a second
  • problem only seems to occur while I'm accelerating
  • car will stop accelerating while the CEL is on, then resume a second later when the CEL turns off
  • engine is running fine, no strange noises even right before the CEL is triggered....the car simply just stops accelerating as if the fuel is being cut off

What things should I check for that could be causing this? I installed the clutch myself, so if some sort of loose connection or something being put back incorrectly could cause this, then it would be fairly likely that's the problem.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate it

check to make sure you didn't pinch any wires in between the engine or tranny, or between the mount/tranny/frame. in nothing turns up there, check your grounds, they heavy gauge one on the front/top of the trans, and the small one on the thermostat. check for broken or damaged connectors on the head that face the trans, like the temp sensors etc. or maybe the knock sensor? you could also look for bare or abraded wires in the general area. I assume you left the engine in the car and just pulled out the trans when you did the clutch?

also could be totally unrelated to the trans install, maybe a failing main relay etc? i dk lol, just trying to sugest ideas.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Upon inspection I noticed that a black wire leading to the O2 sensor in my headers is out of the connector. I tried to put it back, but the wire is actually too short to reach, which leads me to believe it was never hooked up to the connector. But would an O2 sensor be causing a problem like this?

Other than that, everything else looked good.

deffinatly connect that, although it seems hard to belive that that is what is causeing the problem, but i suppose if it is puting it into limp home mode... try pulling the wire all the way out so that it isnt touching anything, and start it up and see what happens...

Great idea. Thanks.

and @ cpl, yeah I probably do need to at least cover the exposed wire. Probably a very good idea lol

depending on what side of the of the o2 sensor connector it could be your signal wire... i would connect it no matter what, asap, it cant be good lol.

Just for future reference and in case anyone stumbles across something like this, the problem went away on it's own. No clue what the issue was; I was unable to pull any error codes from the s200 because I believe datalogging was disabled on the unit. Car runs and drives fine now.
