Starter mount cracked
Don't ask me how but my starter mount cracked. I took the front bolt off and there is a piece with the bolt hole fully intact. Some dipstick must not have been able to get to the back bolt becuase it's like 8-10 threads away from tight.
So here is the question. I believe this starter to actually be in fine working condition, only a year old. When I bought the car they replaced it, I actually had to wait to pick it up till it was done. Do you think that something like "JB Weld" would hold it together if I take the starter completely out, apply it and let it fully cure indoors? It's that "white metal" crap.

I was quoted $120 (automatic trans.). I guess I'll give it a shot. I have to get another extension to get the back bolt. That thing is a PITA to get at. Any trick to getting at the thing other than the right sized extension and getting the rachet in there like a chinese puzzle?
I'm not sure how it is on these cars because i've never looked at it, but on my brother-in-law's mustang 5.0 we took the front passenger side wheel off and went in from the side with multiple extensions and a swivel. He looked from the top while i guided the socket to the bolt and then i held an extension and the socket on while he held another extension and used the ratchet.
Not sure if that helps or not, but you never know.

This car has to have the most bizarre problems I've ever seen. Wouldn't start and needed a valve adjustment, started fine after. Then all my belts fall off, crank pully almost came off. Now this with the starter. What happened to like routine mechanical problems, lol. Are all these GD Preludes like this?
I got it back in JB welded and it started right up. Made darn sure that back bolt was tight. Only problem is I can see the crack again where I put the JB weld on.
Question. If that break again and the stater backs out, I'm pretty confident I could hold it in place if someone else started it. Now if I do that, would my flywheel be turning and bind up into the starter gears or no? I think my best bet is to find another starter asap.
OK, called my mechanic and asked. Looks like the car could be started this way and not interfere so long as the starter gear backs off like it's supposed to. Eventually I'll probably end up needing to do this if the JB weld cracks.
