Default Carbone Lorraine SBK5 vs. Vesrah RJL

So I'm picking up some spiegler SS lines, and some new pads for my first track day (next monday). I doubt I'll be a fast pace, by any means, but I would rather be over prepared than under prepared.

Between Carbone Lorraine SBK5 and Vesrah RJL, which would most of you recommend for street/track riding? Other brands are fine too, I just need an idea of how the perform.

Also, which fluid do most of you run? I was just going to go with Motul. Thanks in advance.

I used to run HRC soft bite pads on my RC51 and they were great. I upgraded to the carbone lorraine C44 pads instead as $150 for the HRCs was way to stiff and they didn't last long enough. I'm extremely pleased with the c44 pads but the suck on the street as I don't get any heat into them. The SBK5 won't have that problem and should give you excellent stopping power. Lots of people use vesrah but they typically cost more. The RJL is also more of a racing pad instead of street/track. Costs $30 more too so the same cost as the c44 pads. Avoid things like galfer, ebc, or any other cheapo brand. They typically have thin back plates and can warp from the high heat that you generate at the track.

im on my second set of vesrah rjls and will continue to use these on all my bikes. no complaints at all.

im running a rizoma master, galfer stainless, vesrah pads, braking wavys, and castrol brake fluid, this thing stops on a dime.

I've had 3 sets of Galfer HH's on two different bikes and have always been pleased with them on the track. Vesrah's are very popular, I just haven't tried them yet.

+1. I highly doubt he'll be warping pads at C/B pace. I've used EBC HH pads on all my bikes and they've worked good.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just went with the Carbone Lorraine SBK5's and spiegler lines. I'll be flushing the system with motul 5.1; is this set-up going to be ok with stock rotors?

Stock rotors are fine. And I run just DOT 4 personally. And yeah he may not warp them but why waste the money when the SBK5 pads weren't much more at all. With brakes, I don't skimp. In fact, nothing on the bike will I skimp. Not worth going back and having to do something twice.

motul 5.1 should be fine. I don't see a lot of people boiling fluid on a bike unless they're really fast, or really hamfisted with the brakes. 5.1 has a decent DBP anyway.

For a combo street/track pad, the SBK5's are fine. I <3 the RJL's, but they may have warm up issues on the street? Not sure since i never used them on the street, but once they're warm they have really brutal (and wonderful) initial bite.

For the most part, most pads should survive track duty, selecting the pad has more to do with preference. Though pad warp and heat soak become issues later on, most people (myself and most of us included) just don't have the pace.

you'll be fine. i'm running pretty much the same setup on my bike with the SBK5 and haven't had any issues yet. be sure to post up a review and pics of your TD.
