I have a question regarding IACV. I just swapped a JDM B16 into my EG6, and I threw a code. When I searched for Codes, it came up as a Code 14, IACV. I have since pulled it off, and found that the Screen was 50% to 60% blocked by a tarry substance. My question is, the Valve in the IACV, what is its purpose, as in, the valve is currently close. Does it open up when it heats up, closes when its cold, etc. Any info would be greatly appricated.

 

the purpose of the iacv is to relate to the ecu via colant temp to set the idle it also works off the ecu to idle the car up when you put a load on it with ac or other comp. definatly get it cleaned up tho

 

I must have worded my question wrong. There is a Valve in the IACV, which is currently set to the close position. Does the Valve open up when it gets hot, what is the Valve's purpose in the IACV, and what does it open and close for?

 

like i said it opens up to allow air past the butterfly in the TB. therefore adjusting idle. if you look where you took it off there will be a hole where this happens. just make sure the valves moves when pushing on it and its not stuck

 

Ok, Thank you. Tried to push the Valve open, and it didn't budge. Going to try to lube it up and see if it moves, but I'm guessing its bad. Thank you for your info, very much appreciated.

sometimes they can be pretty hard to push because the heat from the coolant is what moves it

 

the IACV is controlled by the ECU, not the heat of the coolant. It has coolant running through it only to heat up the intake manifold during super cold startups (think Alaska winter)

The FITV is controlled by the coolant.

don't force the plunger in the IACV.
To test it, BRIEFLY put 12V across the two pins and watch the plunger, it should move smoothly and quickly to the other side. If it moves slowly or kinks to the side replace it.
