Changed alternator, now battery light is on
I got my alternator changed by one of the mechanics at work. I know the new alternator I bought works because I tested it before I even bought it. After about 5 mins of driving my car the battery light turned on and stayed on. It dosnt flash or anything it stays on the entire time the car is running. Anyone know why it would do this, could it be a bad ground or something?
Sounds like it's not charging properly. When the battery light comes on it means that the voltage is low. Get a voltmeter and test the voltage with the car on and off. It should read around 12.8 volts with the car off, and ~14 with the car running.
^^ditto^^ also check the conections at alternator. if it isnt the belt or the conections then i would have to lean towards a bad alternator. i had a bad alt. on my el camino that tested good 3 times, finally just boght a new one and broblem solved.
