aftermarket radio removal
ok i bought a used 93 civic, with an aftermarket radio in a metal cage. now i need to pull out the cage so i can get to the climate control to do an led conversion, but i dont have the little tools that are supposed to come with the stereo to pull it out. anyone know the next best thing to use? screwdriver, knife, etc...
What is the make and model of the HU, [aftermarket radio]?
zsudz922 is correct, a pair of butter knives slipped down the sides, between cage/sleeve and the HU will release the "clips" of most aftermarket HUs, but not all.
Also, if HU was installed properly there will be a back support, "L" bracket off the back of the HU to the stock rear support brace.
You will need to get to the back of the HU to push it out anyway, so remove dash trim below HU... http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/466017.pdf
To remove back brace if any and to make sliding the HU out of the sleeve easier. 94
