Default Another exhaust thread...

I have searched a fair bit but can't seem to find what i am looking for. I have decided to go a quieter route as i am getting older and the spoon N1 is getting a bit too much. Fujitsubo RM01A is nice but a bit pricey and being a N1 design, i don't want to chance that still being too loud. Mugen TL is the ideal choice but again, it's pricey and a good condition unit is really hard to come by. My final choices are the following:

1. Tanabe Touring Medalion
2. Apexi WS2
3. Stock OEM muffler

I am currently using a spoon b-pipe and the cheapest route is to just get an OEM muffler and bolt it up to the spoon b-pipe. However, will there be any power difference between the 2 systems that i have listed compared to the OEM unit? Also, does anyone have any experience with the Tanabe system? It's suppose to be tested @ 93db and it comes in full stainless. I can't seem to find too much info about this system at all as it appears that the Apexi WS2 is the ideal choice for baffled muffler amongst R owners. Any advice is welcomed.

Thanks.

I would assume from your list the of quiet mufflers go like this...

1) Stock OEM muffler
2) Apexi WS2
3) Tanabe Touring Medalion

Nothing can get quieter then stock but with performance, if your not fully built or whatever, I can see no more then 5 hp difference. Very unnoticeable I believe...

This is just my opinion, but I am sure someone else can chime in on this...

Side note, if price wasnt an issue, Hytech exhaust is great on performance and sound...

I had the WS2 universal muffler and still got a ticket...here in Va if its not factory its illegal But then again it was still loud.. I had the WS2 universal muffler attached to my apex n1 exhaust b pipe and it was still loud....maybe the b pipe didn't have the proper resonators since it was originally for the N1, I dunno but don't get the apex universal muffler. They are not quiet. The original apex WS was very quiet though.
I can't comment on the full cat back WS2 system though, it may be quiet just my experience with the apex universal muffler was not good.

I now run a T1R 2.5 bpipe with a stock type r muffler. Its low and throaty. Good for everyday cruising. I have a hytech header connected to it with an omni test pipe, and that gets loud when I punch the gas but otherwise very sleeper. You lose quite a bit of top end power though. It was something I could actually feel....Stock muffler still very restrictive.

I have a few friends that run the RSR exmag exhaust and its pretty low key as well. Very quiet when cruising....almost stock when I'm cruising next to them. This would be a decent exhaust for you. A compromise between performance and sound. They run around $525- $600

The greddy Sp would also be another viable option as well, a few of my friends had this exhaust and its very quiet and looks good...only problems I've seen with these is that they rust out and break through after a few years. $350-$450

The hytech twin loop system is probably the one exhaust that would net you the most power and still be very quiet. But pricing is a major issue though. i priced one of these up with a renault catalytic converter from Hytech and it would of cost me $1200 for their exhaust system. But you really get what you pay for here, very nice system.

Since you already have the spoon B pipe have you considered their spoon sport street muffler? Its got a 60mm inlet which matches your b pipe and sounds pretty decent and looks pretty stock.

Here is a link to the spoon street muffler so you have an idea of sound. I believe they run about $600 but I've seen them on hondatech go for about $400 you just have to look around or wait for one to be sold. i will be switching to this myself when I have the money.

The Rsr sounds a little deeper then this but all are good exhausts.

The Tanabe that you want is actually still pretty loud. There is still a slight drone when you cruise. Of all the exhausts listed here its probably still the loudest. Although still more quiet then an N1.

Hope that helps you some. I spent a lot of time doing research for quiet exhausts and a lot of money switching to different combinations. It took me some time to finally get a combination I was happy with. I've heard all the exhausts mentioned here in person and found one I liked. Good luck with your search.

You might consider the Aero Turbine muffler. I have a thread on the Honda Fit forum concerning this exhaust on my '09 Fit Sport (New Exhaust Fits GD3's And GE8's). I will fit your car. Take a look at the manufacturer's web site. It will be slightly louder, and deeper, than a stock muffler, but it has advantages that stock exhaust does not have.

but the WS2's pipe is only 2.36" not 2.5". I would think that to be restrictive on a built motor especially a 2ltr.

The stock piping diameter on both the GD3 and GE8 is 1-3/4"- all the way from the exhaust manifold back to the muffler......... Anything larger than the stock pipes would not be restrictive.

You probably have bought already but Fujitsubo RM01A or Mugen TL might be pricey but they are the best for what you are looking for. Keep saving until you can get the best.

Truthfully I would think that an N/A build would have to be pretty darn radical to require more than 2.5" piping. I hear that 3" seems to be the best on a K motor though.

Not trying to sound stupid but what makes the tl superior to other mufflers and what do they sound like?
